so what if Interplay wins back the Fallout ip?

Shiozaki

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Interplay is saying that the sale of the fallout ip is void and this reverts everything back to the original deal, in which Beth only has the right to make three fallout games including fallout 3.

If this were to happen... it would change everything, I mean we would be going home....

Good bad , what's your take ?

It's as bad as Bethesda doing a Fallout 4.

The only valid outcome is, if Cthulhu awakes, takes the ip from Bethesda and gives it to Obsidian. And we all know how high the chance for that is.

Yeah, I don’t think that Interplay is going to make a great Fallout game anymore. Obſidian might be the beſt hope, they have ſome of the maſterminds.
I ſtill think that Troika ſhould have gotten the IP from Interplay in the firſt place. I think they could have done a great job.

Why are you using the archaic version of the letter 's'?

Anyways, I don't think that Interplay would get the license back anyways. I would be happy, however, if Obsidian won the Fallout franchise and got Tim Cain back on the team.

As I previously said, I have little faith in the current Interplay. Pretty much all of the masterminds behind Fallout aren't there anymore and the people in charge are hanging on the past, trying to save a company no one cares about. At best, one can expect them to do Fallout Tactics 2 or most likely Fallout Pinball. It's a lot worse than Bethesda doing F4, since they at least have some creative people there.

Best scenario right now would be Bethesda buying Obsidian and making them the Fallout developers, because New Vegas is pretty much close to a true Fallout game on F3's engine. But that would be too good.

Best scenario number 2 is Brian Fargo finally doing Wasteland 2. Not the same universe, but gameplay wise it could be very close to the classic fallouts. Jason Anderson joined Fargo's studio for a reason after all.

Yeah that's too bad that Anderson left inXile...

Also, the idea of Troika doing Fallout would have been thrilling, if it wasn't for the bugginess of their games (don't get me wrong, those are among my fav games ever, even with all their bugs). I don't know, it's weird 'cause the guys at Troika made the first Fallout, I mean it's actually their game (and Fargo's).

And I don't see Cain or Boyarsky joining Obsidian anytime soon; I mean, aside from the fact that they'd have to work with (for?) Avellone and Urquhart, why would they leave their much better jobs at Carbine (NCsoft) and Blizzard?

Its not so much that we need them necessarily back, just people who 'get' Fallout's concept and spirit, and are not in it for the 'post nuclear action and wacky hijinks' like Todd and Emil are.

I can understand that if you want to develop a game you have to make it commercially viable but with the way things are going I rather don't see any Fallout games for a while.

As for Herve Caen and Interplay, I have not forgotten about FOBOS/FOPOS and I still think they haven't learned a thing.

As much as I hate to say, fallout is in good hands with Beth. I don't think Interplay should touch the series after POS. I mean letting them do an online game was bad enough. In my opinion, Obsiaian should make f4. But I don't think we will see obsidian till another spin off game.

Even if the Caen's managed to find any remnants of a soul to sell, there is no possible way that the FO license would be in good hands with them. If FOOL was to be released for PC only, expect it to tank. Nobody releases successful PC-exclusive games these days except Blizzard. If anybody hasn't seen the Earthrise gameplay videos, expect to LOL because they literally look like a PS2 game. Since FOOL runs on the same engine, don't expect much better. Not that we had any sort of faith in a Bulgarian developer to being with.

If Interplay somehow convinced a court to argue in their favor and give them the entire FO license, I honestly would expect Bethesda to buy it back for whatever price it was going for. They would appeal first of course, but I'm just saying. Anybody longing for an isometric Fallout game of old from the original devs need to wake up though, sorry to say.

No, I don't think that IPLY would give Obsidian the chance to make any new games. They've fought too hard to get the rights, they wouldn't want to let anyone else get their hands on the games.
It would end up being developed in-house, and it would probably be some rip-off of FO3 trying to ride the tails of its success, fail horribly, and become an awful FPS Halo-clone.
Maybe they will go back to their turn-based iso roots, but with Herve at the helm I doubt that IPLY will ignore all that juicy Halo-money.

As much as most of you hate Fallout 3, remember that it was Interplay that licensed FOBOS, I think it owuld eb better is Bethesda keeps the rights and just hires Obsidian to make any future installments of the Fallout franchise.

No saying interplay won't do the same, it would be magic if If obsidian got the ip.

Boyarsky I would imagine has the most chances to work at Obsidian. Blizzard is stationed in Irvine too and I don't really think he gets as much creative freedom as he had before.

Well, anything can happen.

Unfortunately I don't see Interplay having what it takes anymore. At best maybe they can pull off another Fallout Tactics game, but I don't see that even going over well.

I agree with the general sentiment that Obsidian may be able to best handle the Fallout universe since New Vegas is very much (at least to me) in the spirit of the first two games despite being an FPS/RPG. I also think it sucks that Troika went out of business, but nothing lasts forever.

I do miss the isometric perspective. I would have liked to see Van Buuren and would still like to see another Fallout game in a similar (but 3D such as in the Neverwinter Nights games) perspective as the first two. The comment about Brian Fargo being able to do a Wasteland 2, I think that would be really something if it was in that top-down perspective. Of course, he was also the one who said that developers make what sells. I wonder if that sort of engine/game would sell good no matter how amazing it was? The gaming world has turned into FPS "AAA" shovel-ware due to consoles taking such a turn.

As for the masterminds behind Fallout, Chris Taylor and Mark O'Green are there.

If IPLY wins, tagging all the Fallout 3 and New Vegas articles at The Vault as non-canon will take a while.
