So... why exactly does Vault 87 have a G.E.C.K.?

gecks are supposed to be standard issue for every vault. as @Hassknecht pointed its much more odd that gecks aren't even mentioned in new vegas or 4.

In new vegas the geck isn´t a mcguffin so its not like there was a point in it showing up, and F4 is F4, I don´t expect beth to be able to keep consistency.

still... with as many vaults in the area you'd think it'd at least be mentioned in a game as large as NV. also it always struck me as odd that in the entirety of the Mojave no one seems to originate from the Mojave or any of its vaults.

There are à lot of p4ople coming from there.

- the ncr, khans, vipers, jackals come from vault 15,which is not far.
- ghouls come from Bakersfield/necropolis vault
- house was there since 2077
- the family were local tribes
- there are several characters coming from the strip vault and one of the irradiated vault ( before it became d irradiated)
- the boomers come from a local vault
- there are several settlements in which people don't come from ncr, bos,or legion.

Doc Mitchell, Sarah Weintraub and her brother came from vault 21 and the boomers came from vault 34.

yeah I know but that's like a mere 3 characters out of how many? the story behind vault 22 plays a role in honest hearts which is honestly pretty cool. I suppose it not as bad as all that. wasn't micheal angelo also from vault 21?

My issue with 3's Vaults is that they contained science experiments and not social experiments. Can anyone really justify exposing people to LSD against their will as a social experiment? And Vaults 87 and 92 shouldn't have followed through on their experiments if the scientists had a single ounce of self preservation. Why the bloody hell would anyone in a tin can drive their neighbors violently insane? Its completely irrational!

FEV, in it's later stages, was an attempt to accelerate human evolution, correct? (Hence the name.)

Well, why wouldn't you want your evolved humans to have an easy time recolonizing the wasteland?

I mean, it doesn't make that much sense, considering SMs are immune to radiation (for... reasons) but it's the best I've got.

EDIT: On the subject of Vault experiments, the best Vaults are in F:NV. They're the perfect combination of SCIENCE! and social horror. That being said, the Gary Vault was the highlight of Fallout 3.

Evolved humans that cannot breed. Sure they have FEV but once it's gone (like it almost is during the events of the game) they're screwed. Not to mention the majority are morons.

Yeah Vaults in New Vegas were much better, especially 11 and 19. I also like how 21 was an experiment and yet it was a great success (pity House screwed it up).

Hell, even The Master was unaware that his mutants were infertile, and he'd been working on them for years.

I guess. Perhaps Vault-Tec expected the dwellers to use the Super Mutants as a security force/combat troops to help them settle the wasteland, instead of expecting the entire Vault to become mutants.

iirc the vault 11 was all about social experiment
