Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors of the US Military

Try to keep in touch Carib, I know it can be hard.

I will tell you one thing that will drive you nuts, FUCKING CAMEL SPIDERS! If you see one any ware near your rack land a boot on it fast because once they set up shop they are a bugger to get rid of. Get yourself friendly with the mess officer if you can, they always have a stash of premium food that is meant to go to the Rupert's that will some how wind up in your tin, also keep a eye out for anything on the side of the road even a dead animal, the insurgents have got hiding a IED down to a art form.

i think there were threads like that on The High Road and The Firing Line, with really simple items that simply weren't available and that everyone wanted. but for the life of me, i cant remember any... :s

Mmyeah. About those camel spiders.

Wikipedia's entry on Solifugae said:
In the Middle East, it is widely rumored among American and coalition military forces stationed there that Solifugae will feed on living human flesh. The story goes that the creature will inject some anaesthetizing venom into the exposed skin of its sleeping victim, then feed voraciously, leaving the victim to awaken with a gaping wound. Solifugae, however, do not produce such an anaesthetic, and they do not attack prey larger than themselves unless threatened. Other stories include tales of them leaping into the air, disemboweling camels, eerie hissing and screaming, and running alongside moving humvees; all of these tales are false.

They don't even have venom. Just don't touch them, as they *do* bite.

Also, they like hair, SO KEEP YOURS SHAVED!

Or as the old saying goes,

"flies spread disease, so keep yours closed!"

Well a good thing, you'll see a lot of camel toes...in camels, of course!

Stay in touch, the army has good fast internet and NMA isn't on the forbidden list.

I'll try and get my guardsman friend to send you an email. Anything to help.

May the water you find in the desert do not shine at you during the night. :)

Go make war for peace. Be safe and good luck.

Caribe-

I thought you did ranger training. Isn't 10th Mountain in Afghanistan?

Good luck, stay in one piece, don't get blown up and avoid bullets.

Hope to see you back soon.

hasta,
welsh

I can get you internet at Camp Victory but thats izzle. The guy I know there is headed back to Russia in December so... let me know. good luck to you. I'm sorry you have to go.

10th Mountain Division is usually in Afghanistan... but my Brigade, the 4th Brigade COmbat Team got assigned to Baghdad to releave 2nd BCT 10th MTN.

Right now everyone rotates. I am sure in a year after I return from Iraq I will be sent to Afghanistan

And as for Ranger Training, my slot got taken since we cut it very close to Deployment. So they been spending time grooming me to be Designated Marksman.

Oh, and right I am in Ireland, we got lay over and will be in Kuwait shortly.

i think that currently, there are more people with ranger tags than there are actual rangers. :P

any soldier can sign up for ranger training and (if accepted) get the lil' tag on their uniform. that however does not make them Army Rangers.

@ Suaside- indeed. I think one of the goals of the Army, back in the 1950s was to make sure its officer corps received either airborne or ranger training. They got up to 70% of infantry officers trained, but not sure if they ever got much further.

@Welsh, SuAcide: As of late, ranger training is also one of the re-enlistment incentives. Got to replace all those folks lured off by the high dollar of contract work.

Carib: Good luck in the box. I've got several friends over there right now. If you need something state-side, a piece of kit, a box of jerky, let me know.

Watch out for them Fobbits - they's tricksey thieves...

Yeah, I been told about the Fobbits....

And thanks, guys, really the support is great.

News Flash, in Kuwait, and its chilly as hell, even during the days (because we are kind of close to the Persian Gulf). Going to train, and hopefully I can send some Army Approved pics (ones that one turn into propaganda missiles).

And yes, for you to be a Ranger you go to the Ranger Bat and do your time as a RIP/ROP trainee and then get your tab. I figure being Infantry, might as well go for the Tab and go for my EIB (Expert Infantryman Badge).

Cool, brosef. Don't get shot! Pretend you're playing COD4 and you'll be ok and you'll regenerate.

I wish it were that easy.... Alas, no respawn points in the real world. Hopefully I'll have enough APs to get me through it.
