Good news, I mailed the guy pics and he said he'd send me replacement parts free of charge. That's a lot more than I was expecting. It won't be in time for Halloween but I'll have to make do.
Not the best pictures but here's what it looks like so far. It's missing a few details but I didn't have time to really finish it before Halloween. The guy is also sending me replacement parts, so these won't be the final pieces anyway:

About PipBoy - inside wiring isn't a problem when you fit it on your arm (I mean, when you fit it, I get it).
I've seen plenty of good replicas, but most had a problem with inside wiring sticking out everywhere.

Other than the painting I sanded some of the logos off and also modified it so the barrel would come out further and 'spin' for Russian roulette. Some modding videos on YouTube.
The pipboy used the same base black and then some green camouflage paint:
