Starcraft 2 campaigns to be sold separately

Yes, kinda spoils the mystery of it all doesn't it? They should mix the campaigns up a little to keep you guessing. After you finish the last campaign.. guess what? Another campaign! Now that would be cool.

Kinda like how you can pretty much guess how long a PS1 RPG is gonna be by how long it takes you to get through the first disc.

Maybe they do maybe they don't. It might be worth mentioning that Terran->Zerg->Protoss was the original flow of campaigns for the original Starcraft. And if you really want to get technical just think about how much of a derivative the story from Starcraft is to Warcraft III. An ancient race coming back with hostile intent that helped to create one of the universes main factions etc. etc. (More similarities include Kerrigan and Arthas as well as the way that the Zerg spread on Mar Sara just like the undead plauge spreads in WC3) All this to say that if this trend keeps up the Xel'Naga will rape the crap out of everything in the whole SC universe. [spoiler:605fe8c507]In the original Starcraft the Protoss were placed last because they destroyed the Overmind with Raynor's help (pretty much the same way that Archimonde and the burning legion was killed at the end of WC3) a whole lot of mystical energy flowing into said baddie then, boom, dead.[/spoiler:605fe8c507]

I now want to return to making my custom campaigns for Starcraft.

Those were the days and I will start again. Looking at them though they were pretty horrible and unbalanced. Looks like I gotta put my hardhat on.

I sucked.

On topic. What the hell? I don't buy it but whatever.

Word is the Zerg campaign will emphasize RPG elements
Please god do not let them do the hero bullshit they did with WC3.

Nice cash-grab Blizzard.

Thanks for sticking to the fans here.
No kidding, I'm pissed. I guess with some of the crap they did with WoW it's not surprising (ex. banned anyone who made a clan for gays) but it's just leaving me shaking my head.

This has honestly made me not want to purchase SC2 at all. A YEAR between campaigns? It's bad enough that we have to wait so long for Valve to relesae 20 minute HL episodes.

Fuck Blizzard and their cash grabbing bullshit.
No kidding. I was thinking "Hey, it's crap but at least I can wait like a year and a half or two years and buy it as a battlechest for like $60 but it sounds like I'll have to wait at least three, if not four years for that. There is no way that I'm going to pay $100+ for it but if they're doing this, they need to price the games appropriately (would prefer $40, $20, $20 but I'm guessing they'll go $60, $40, $40) and have at least twenty if not thirty missions per game or have some incredible extra content. I'm with SuA here, I think there's a good chance that they may split the multiplayer races up aswell (like DoW) but they may include the Protoss in the first game to make sure that it's not a total loss.

This announcement has made me well, loose just a little hope for blizzard, WOW was such a cash grab, and it looks like they are doing the same thing with diablo 3 and starcraft 2.
Yeah, I didn't care for WoW (in fact I'd call it a steaming pile of shit that stinks so much that every damn fly in the world goes in to have a piece) but I never thought that they would do it with Diablo III and StarCraft II. This is really making me concerned with the content of both games, I'm worried that they might somehow decide that they can bring the WoW crowd into this crap and screw up the games but I don't think that they're that stupid... Microtransactions for Diablo III could really piss me off, I'm assuming it's for equipment (hate that shit)?

Maybe, it's odd seeing as they seemed to have a rotation going which should be Zerg, Protoss, Terran so I guess it's storyline.

Two games that I was really optimistic for have now brought enough doubt that I probably won't buy either on release.

That wont happen...

It don't work with SC to do something like that, 50% of the market is in Korea, and the MP is as at least as important as SP, if not more.

How can you play only one race? The comparison with DoW is faulty because in that game there where four races in the first game, and then they added more in exps. That works, but when you only have 3 races instead of 11(?) it doesn't.

I even read somewhere (i don't have the strength to find it) that they confirmed that your theory wont happen.

In the FAQ on blizzard's site, there is info that terran campaign will feature about 26-30 missions ,in non linear order (and so will the zerg and protoss ones)

That's good. I guess it comes down to whether all of the races are playable in multiplayer from the start and how much each campaign will cost. I'd like to not spend more than $80 on the three campaigns.

well, as long as these games are of decent quality(it should take you at least 30 minutes to complete a mission) and that there is a good enough amount of maps bundled with the multiplayer mode.

Price will really be the deciding factor for me, if it's 60 dollers an expansion, I will probably wait until 2015 or whenever blizzard will finish the damn thing.

I don't like this.

If there are 26-30 missions per race then StarCraft 2 will have a total of 78-90 missions.
StarCraft and Brood war had a total of around 56 and I found it hard to go trough the last missions when it was all a case of: build base and eliminate huge enemy base, rinse and repeat.

I'm afraid so many missions will dilute the experience and by the time you'll reach the end of the Protoss campaign you'd have forgotten what happened in the Terran one.

Wow, I expected more green in Kerrigan's face... but it also hints at a fourth race, or a cameo at least with the Zel'Naaga showing up...

Personally I approve their decision to me most memorable thing was the campaign and story. BW took it a notch higher with drama. But knowing Blizzard they will have interesting story to tell, the longer the story the better. Because to compared DOW 1 side campaign, which was dull. WA was somewhat better, but never reached same height in story telling as SC did. Remains to be seen how DOW2 will turn out because they are going for similar formula as is SC2. Overall the strategy worked well with HL2 and I think it will work with SC2.
