Starcraft!

The Vault Dweller

always looking for water.
As much as I like Hotel California's suggestion I know its been an old decision to not delete those accounts.

Also Silencer gets a thumbs up for the Starcraft picture.

Agreed

You play SC/BW online Dweller?

Yes. Funny you mention it I had been playing non-stop for a few months, but I stopped recently to play some other old games.

I originally got Starcraft many years ago and played all of the single-player campaign and lots of scenarios versus the computer. However I had dial-up and couldnt really play online. Since I got cable some months ago I've gone crazy playing games that I couldnt before online. I spent more than two months playing awesome Starcraft maps that are easily good enough to be their own games. Diplomacy, bounds, the RPG maps, impossibles, etc.

I dont really play the actual vs. where you play against other players in traditional play. I love the use-map-settings maps and prefer the cooperative ones.

What do you play?

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

I used to play Starcraft online a lot, but I couldn't get my BW CD working properly on XP, so I could only play the classic version. However, I just got my hands on an 8-year-old PC with win98, and both SC and the expansion work perfectly there. :D
I play UMS mostly because I'm not good enough to compete with medium-skilled players. ^^

Agreed Vault Dweller. For a long time, I played starcraft non-stop but I never actually played the real game mode. Instead, I was obsessed with the use map setting games of World War II, The Simpsons (i think that's what it was called. You were constantly given a unit and after you killed X of your opponent's, you got a better one) and Matrix (You have to build a base to prevent enemies from running from x to y).

Talking about it now, those were probably my favorite game to play of ANY RTS game and they were just simple user levels. I'd be tempted to try playing them again now if it hadn't gotten so hard to find matches in those modes.

I used to play Starcraft quite a lot against friends on a LAN. In fact I played on LAN long before I actually started playing through the (ingeniously written, might I add) single-player campaign.

Our usual game was at the "Big Game Hunters" map, with 3 to 5 players participating. I always selected the Terrans. Battlecruisers, Siege Tanks, and mass-nuking your opponents with strategically-placed and concealed Ghost units. Those were the days!

Hehe yea UMS is funny some times :)

"The Simpsons (i think that's what it was called. You were constantly given a unit and after you killed X of your opponent's, you got a better one)"

I haven't played this one but i do like to play "Crash", its the same thing basically. You crash and then you choose one unit and then you are going to kill everything on the map. When you kill enough enemys you "evolve" and take another form. Very funny :)

"Matrix (You have to build a base to prevent enemies from running from x to y). "

Yea Matrix is a classic :) There are like a million different versions out there. And no its not very hard to find a game with matrix even today.

I have been playing this game online for many years. I have had like 2 years breaks etc but i cant seem to stop playing it :) Its still the best RTS out there and that pretty damn impressive.

I play mostly 2v2 and 3v3 hunt or lt as most people do.

What your nick on bnet? Mine is Morgoth.Bauglir, lets have a game sometime.

Hmm i have XP and SC/BW works perfectly. I have some "best seller" version. I had it burnt on cd long time ago but i played so mutch that i broke  Thats a sing that the developers have earned your money right there

Well, this BW CD I got is some older version which wasn't optimised for WinXP yet, but I'll get my hands on the newer version as soon as possible. ^^
Anyways, my nickname on bnet is Kick4ss, so if you're up for a UMS, I'm there. :P

So now the rest of us get to rush all the two players that have revealed their nicknames in a public forum, instead of posting PMs.

Speaking of starcraft, some sort of starcraft sequel seems to be in the work as seen here. Hopefully, it's not that forever delayed starcraft: ghost.

"I'm a StarCraft player myself and I hope it's not a decade, and we launched StarCraft in 1998, before I'm standing here again, celebrating the next game in the series," stated Bassat while on stage.

Was stated at a launch party for the World of Warcraft expansion by Itzik Ben Bassat, Vice President Business Development and International for Blizzard Entertainment.

I'm just hoping the team is staying as FAR away from a world of starcraft as possible. While I trust they aren't, hearing the statement at a world of warcraft launch party reminds me of what Blizzard's huge asset is right now.

Also, is it just a bizarre coincidence that this statement comes only days after a topic about Starcraft surged on the forums?

I still believe that Blizzard will first release another trillion add-ons for WoW, then create a Diablo 3, and after that they might consider doing another Starcraft game. I sure hope I am wrong though, and a Starcraft game comes sooner.

I'm not sure how a..."World of Starcraft" would work. You'd make a Terran Firebat or a Protoss Dragoon character and rush planet Korhal with your clan to raise your statz0rs? A Starcraft MMO would probably be quite as non-functional as a Fallout MMO, though such inconsistencies are probably meaningless to today's gaming industry...

there will be no starcraft MMO in the coming 5 years. it'd be shooting yourself in the foot. why bother?

however, D3 is in the pipe & so is a starcraft game. (and it's probably not a revived 'Ghost', although it might not be a pure RTS)

Sua, while I agree that WoS would be shooting themselves in the foot, won't a Diablo 3 have a similar effect (I'm pretty sure I've read similar sentiments on these forums before).

How did that "Ghost" game turn out, anyway? Wasn't it a big flop?

StarCraft: Ghost never even hit PC, kinda strange.

Not that it matters mutch, it seems to be crap any way.

Found this on wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft:_Ghost

Reports indicate that most of the people responsible for the development of the original StarCraft have left the company

This is kinda sad  Maybe its foolish to think that the same people would still be there after nearly 10 years. But i still dont like it :wtf:

As a Fallout and Starcraft fan, I am disgruntled.

I think I'll make some new single player UMS scenarios I will play all by myself and a pack of fellow Commanders, like I used to in highschool ;)
