Starting New Game - Hardcore Mode Plus House Rules

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I'm starting my first ever hardcore mode playthrough (I've done hardcore mode playthroughs, but ended up taking it off around the end of the game).

Plus, I'm adding House Rules. These rules are:

• No fast-travel (except for in rare circumstances).
• Can never take the Intense Training perk (although I can buy the implants if I want to).
• Assigning SPECIAL points must be somewhat realistic to what I think my IRL SPECIAL might be.
• No re-loading old saves after major choices are made. Once a choice is made, even if it was in the heat of the moment, that's it. That's the choice I'm going to have to live with.
• No re-loading old saves to exploit advantages. For example - if my companion is heavily wounded and accidentally steps on a land-mine, there's no re-loading a save to him/her back from the grave.

And I'm not sure if I want to add this rule yet or not; because waiting around can get irritating:
• No using the "wait" feature.

If you are playing on PC, I would highly recommend using the jsawyer.esp mod. It was made by NV's lead developer to make the game more like his initial vision, making it more challenging as well as more balanced in a lot of ways. It improves a ton of things and is definitely going to make your game harder.

If you're playing with hardcore mode I'd get something like Imp's More Complex Needs that makes hardcore mode even more hardcore.

I would reccomend playing with both Project Nevada and Jesawyer together, there is a compatibility patch between the two now. Altho it needs all the DLCs even courier's stash to work. It prevents you from starting out with a bunch of 100% condition equipment.
If you wann make it as close to Vanilla as possible just run JESawyer's mod.

If you use Courier's Stash use the mod that scatters all that equipment across the wasteland for you to find instead of just giving it to you at the start, I can't remember the name but it should be on the nexus.

I want to use that IMPS mod but god dammit, it conflicts with Project Nevada hard and I can't find a compatiblity patch, and I just don't play without Project Nevada.

Does it? I played my entire last playthrough with both of them and it worked just fine. It might be conflicting with a different mod, or maybe with project nevada's auto-sorter. Or maybe even just the DLC, but there's a compatability patch for those: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/48586/?

It's probably a good idea to load the needs mod after project nevada. You can use something like BOSS to automatically organise your load order.

I never felt a need for IMPS with New Vegas anyway. A merged patch is your best bet if you want to give them both a shot.

Well both of them change food and Hardcore needs rates. Don't those interfere?

If you load IMCNNV after the rebalance module for project nevada, it'll work fine. It'll just overwrite whatever changes PN made. You should really use the BOSS utility, because it sorts out most of these load order issues for you.

I know it works fine because I've been playing with both of them in every playthrough I've done lately. There might be a few food items that don't modify the right stats, but you can always just not use those.
