Submarine Mod

@ Chris Parks
Will be there possibility to walk inside the submarine? If so, I could try to create interior walls. Let me know if need them or other art.

Yes definitely. So far, I'm thinking about three levels. That's what I've planned anyway.

If you want to do art for the sub mod, that'd be great. There's always some art that can be done to improve any mod. Obviously the main art is the sub itself, which Azrael was doing (I think). I'll check if he is going to finish it.

I was playing with interior walls for the sub and here's a result (this is in game size):

a) I could create two levels of the sub and add the hull:

b) I can adjust the hull size and the position of the levels. Next cut (and fill holes) to something like this (1st level):

Any other ideas?

Continuum,

They look great!

Obviously the levels would need to be a bit wider, so I can put rooms etc inside, but otherwise they look great.

Could they be textered? I was looking for something like the rust coloured walls of the old fallout vaults.

Have you seen the thread called graphics? Azrael did a bit of work on the sub.

It's just a FO2's wall template without doors, details, etc. + random tube attached to it ;)

Yes, I've seen the thread. If I'll start work on it I must create new submarine. If I want to achieve effect like on the pictures above I must have the hull's geometry before I'll start cut levels/walls into pieces. And... in this way I can create "two things in one":
a) submarine before player will enter there (huge scenery art),
b) walls (+ visible parts of the hull) when player enter to the sub.

I'm thinking about unique set of art for the sub: walls, interiors like: sonar, computers, nuclear reactor, periscope! , etc.

As regards Azrael - he seems to be pretty busy because of college, iirc. He was working on one new wallset for BGE too, but that work is probably paused since September. I still do believe he'll come back one fine day anyway. :revolution:

Mr. Continuum, you should contact him in any way - two people separately working on one sub would be a... dissipation. :P

At least we would have art so the sub could be done.

What you've said continuum sounds great!

That's why I posted in this thread. I don't know how far Azrael's sub is progressed or is he still working on it... So far I've seen only two pieces of the sub (in graphics thread). I can't use them.

Anyway, everything depends from Chris Parks, if he decides I'll start modeling the sub :)

The sub will be heavily influenced by USS Nautilus (first nuclear-powered submarine from mid 50').

I like this idea.

The only thing I disagree with is having the whole sub as a "hot zone". I could say having the engineeering level(where the reactor is located) be hot, with the level or levels above it less "hot", due to the distance and layers of materials between the reactor itself and the entrance.

And if the Enclave had previously been inside the sub, there should be a radiation suit somewhere near the entrance, but like the rubber boots, it's protection could lessen and eventually stop altogether.

Lastly, why not impliment the ability to disarm the nuclear warheads on board? If the science or repair skill is not high enough - BOOM.

Just a few ideas I had while reading this topic. I have a few others, but I don't think you guys want me to rant on with them

well, if you wish to have a go, then do so. I don't mind who works on it. If you have time at the moment where Azrael doesn't then fine.

I have already decided on several ways to do this area of which this is one of them.

Just curious: Is there any way to combine scenery/tiles that player could walk on the deck and from there enter to the sub?

Well.. it could be made by optical deception, I think. Like in Fallout 2, Frisco Docs (the tanker port) with the stairs and so on.

I think, this could work. But the Arroyo Bridge was most ground tiles. Only the railing was scenery, if I remember right.

The canyon is a scenery art (7 pieces) + tiles, the bridge (tiles) + walls (railing on the left side).

Anyway, here's my idea (the sub can be placed in other directions):

There's a ramp, so player can enter on the deck. I could merge the ramp with SF dock's tiles/scenery. Ramp + deck are the tiles, the rest of the sub is a scenery. But adjusting freaking Frame Offset probably will be a nightmare... :?

Now, the question is: will this be working or not?

why not have the sub partially submerged, with a brigde leading to the sail? this might help ease some of the problems.....

Also, all naval ships have an arms locker - could this be implimented?

Lastly, instead of having to disarm the individual nukes, why not have a computer that does so?

Such type of art is working (I did basic in game test), but very time consuming... I must doing a lot of "combinations" with 3d scene/rendered images if I want to create tiles and scenery from one object. And the submarine is veeery long :P

Maybe I'll figure out little shorter method...

----------------EDIT
Blockers on the deck are working well:

Ugh yeah -. Sorry. I haven't been getting enough sleep lately and was not really paying attention before I posted. Please forgive me.

What I was referring to WAS a ramp, but as a flat surfacel instead of an incline. This is the only reason I mentioned the sub being partially submerged.

I have yet to try modding fallout/fallout 2, so if my ideas are not feasible, by all means feel free to bash me.
