So as we all know, Superbowl XXXVIII is this Sunday at 6:25 pm ET. The AFC vs. the NFC. The Patriots vs. the Panthers. GAME TIME BABY. What are your predictions on the the outcome? Winner? Spread? Score Predictions?

Patriots by 20 points.

I actually have no idea what I'm talking about...never seen either of them play. But you stick with Malky and he'll make you rich!

Jebus, do you honestly not know what the Superbowl is? Cause if you don't, jebus christ....

Yes, I really don't. I guess it's a finale of some kind... But what sport? Since I've never heard of it, it has to be one those American sports nobody here in Europe gives a flying fuck about: either baseball of American Football. Am I correct?

Its the American Football championship. Possibly one of the most physically grueling, dirty, cheap shot ridden games of all time. Not to mention its probably the most televised game and the game that gets the most media coverage. Anywhere.

And I want the Panthers to win cause I despise the Patriots with a passion. But I think the Pats will win cause they have a pretty tight defense and Tom Brady isn't bad. I have a feeling, though, that it'll come down to the Pats winning off of a Vinatieri field goal.
Therefore, a 3 point spread.

Dudes, lets not forget about the commercials.

The commercials are the best part of the Super Bowl. Companies pay millions of dollars so that their commercials can be broadcast while it airs. Some of the funniest and most memorable commercials ever made have aired during the Super Bowl.

You people seem to quite shocked... Let me shock you even more: since I'm into several sports - football for example, I know waaaay to much about football then is good for me - and I've never heard of the Superbowl; I'm quite sure the vast mayority of people here in Western Europe have never heard of it.

But hell, I guess it works the other way around too. Have you people, for instance, ever heard about Real Madrid? Or David Beckham, for example?

Uhhhh...yes?
I'm an enormous Manchester United fan. I have been ever since I met Keano. He lives next door to my friends aunt. Becks is a bitch, btw, who happens to have an unbelievably hot wife.
Not to mention that I have a friend down the hall who is a huge Liverpool fan, and we constantly poke at each other when our teams do something shitty and gloat continuously when our teams do something good. We know more about sports than you think.

Yes, David Beckham played for the English Soccer team, now he plays for Real Madrid. He's also married to the former Posh Spice, Victoria.

I stayed in Madrid, Torrejon, more precisely, for three weeks a while back. Hung out around town, went to the actual city of Madrid (Torrejon De Ardoz is right outside of Madrid), and even stood in the exact center of the country.

Turn left and there's a McDonald's.

Also, I went to one of those damned Nestle Ice Cream stands every day. Always got that soccer-ball popscicle thing, with the Real Madrid people on it. I collected enough points from buying those to get a soccer ball with the Real Madrid team's pictures on it.

Allright, you people are exceptions then :D

I'm saying this because Becks did a promo tour in the USA some time ago; and I read in the newspaper it was kinda emarrasing for him. Seems almost nobody there had any idea who the hell he was....

Hmmm...seems Jay Novacek also thinks the Patriots will win, although he gives them a little more leeway.

In the second quarter, both teams will open it up more, so expect a score of 14-10 or so at halftime.

In the second half, both will open it up even more and it will end up a high-scoring game. The Patriots offense has been slowed by the weather recently, and that won’t be a problem at Reliant Stadium. Expect New England to put enough points. Patriots 31-24.

Americans don't really dig Soccer. It's not a very popular sport, outside of High School.

American Football is to America what European Football is to Spain, let's put it those terms.

When I stayed in Madrid I was lucky enough to be there during Spain's go at the World Cup. On game days, especially those of Real Madrid, there wasn't a single person on the street. Seriously. It was like "28 Days Later" out there. The guy in the ice cream stand even had a mini TV hooked up so he could watch, and freaked out when I came walking up the street to buy my daily bag of goodies. I almost had a heart attack because when I walked through the courtyard and back to the apartment we were staying in I heard every single person in town shout "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!", simultaniously. I soon learned this wasn't out of the ordinary at all.

O no it ain't.

Actually; soccer is to Europe what Jesus Christ is to America.

Tru dat....not even Jesus could save the Giants this season. But next season, just you wait...we're goin all the way to the Superbowl baby!

And I can't even believe that Tom Brady is being compared to Joe Montana. That's just wrong.

Heh, Jesus Christ is more to Europeans than he is to Americans, trust me.

Oh really? I do believe I still have to experience the first time one of our presidents -or prime ministers- says: 'God Bless Europe'...

But anyways, I guess it all depends. Here in the media, the main image we're getting of the citizens of the USA is that they're a bunch of gun-totin', war-mongerin', stupid-ass hyper-religious motherfuckers. I guess there are indeed some of them over there, but then mainly confined to the White House...

And: you have to realise that you went to Spain. Spain is indeed a very religious country, but in North-Western Europe, where I come from, religion has become a marginal phenomenon to say the least.

SuperBowl Sunday is considered a national holliday to most American men, inlcuding me. What's the world championship for soccer, (just guessing-) the World Cup? Well the SuperBowl is like the World Cup but for non-pussies. The entire day leading up to the game is full of Televised 'hype' cosisting of past SuperBowl stories, 'the road to the SuperBowl', and predictions for the big game. So guys get together and drink and watch the TV all day.
