Switzerland Bans Violent Videogames

Switzerland. Worlds largest population of who gives a fuck.

Ban guns, ban videogames, ban protests and marches, stop the freedom of speech, censor the news. Welcome to the "Democracy"!

Like I said. The average age of people in Switzerland is over 40. It also has more businesses there than people.

Who cares? Great countries are not even 400kilos away from the people who live there.

Swiss businessmen im sure drive to Paris every holiday for hookers and drugs anyways. I'm sure that videogames aren't that much of a market in Switzerland.

I feel for you. We might finally be getting R rated games down under after fighting with the dumb asses in power for years.

Cencorship is everywhere present. Be it Europe or the US. I am just saying. You know there is always something that limits you in a certain way. Even regarding freedom of spech in a democracy.

I want to see if "Gamers" get in as big a huff as they did about games being banned in Australia or Venezuela.

I swear I will fucking plotz if a boycott of Swiss things is ever brought up.

I'm surprised by this. Switzerland has a reputation for being pretty liberal. I was planning on moving there one day, so I hope they reconsider. I wonder what people over there are saying.

Looks pretty even according to Wikipedia. But yeah, average age looks to be around 30-40. I guess the ban might not have a big impact on the population after all.

Being an ultracapitalist country, I doubt such a ban would last if it hurt any major businesses.

I say the same. They always pusing the censorship and bans to the limit. That's why I think it's not a real Democracy. It's more like a light-dictatorship with a little bit of Idiocracy (Watch the movie! http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/ ).

Good…now if only they could ban violence in society…oh I think they already have - but made no difference. Generally I think that if were an absence of violence (or reduction of violence) the dicks that actually make video games might have to think a bit more deeply about how to build an intelligent game (maybe some story and game play) and not just rely on cheap graphic effects. Fallout 3’s exploding body parts added nothing to the game play (but saying that I did love Fallouts exploding body parts), but even without the comic violence Fallout still was a brilliantly realized and crafted. So good – ban violent video games - who knows they might actually start making games worth playing again. (He wraps himself in a blanket ready for the violent video game counter attacks). :freak:

I actually wonder, how much power do the decisions like that have, given the amount of autonomy the local governments have in Switzerland... I have only a very basic understanding of Swiss politics, so someone enlighten me ;)

Even the Super Mario game is violent, because Mario kills goomba monsters. It's funny how the news title says "Switzerland Takes Aim at Violent Video Games". Really? Switzerland? I'm sure it's not Switzerland, just stupid politicians.

From what I've heard Switzerland is actually a very intolerant country. Even Germans are sometimes discriminated against when they use hochdeutsch in public. I'm not really surprised after the minaret ban and the hateful, racist rhetoric and propaganda posters that were used to bring in votes:

Just the real face of Swiss politics, I guess. Get ready for more bans.

Then again, their intolerance is part of what has kept them independent for all these years. I don't see how it's much of a problem, either, if it doesn't affect neighbouring countries. No-one is forcing anyone to go to Switzerland.

Is that the reason though? The article wasn't specific. Anyway, at least Switzerland has a system in place that allows veto votes by the people. You wouldn't have that anywhere else. They're not the only country to ban violent video games.

Your support of Switzerland and your wish to establish yourself there later has been duly noted by the swiss government.

Meh, personally i doubt it. Stuff like bloody mess is a minor addition to games. Removal of it won't change anything. Really i think its pretty benign.
