Because I conducted these interviews, I deem them interesting enough to post.

Just kidding!

I did an interview with MCA and Colin McComb on their work on Planescape Torment. It's a hefty read (they sent me about 10 pages of answers, in total  ), but worth it

Tales of torment!

Why don't you newspost it here, mang? I think it's relevant enough. Plus, It'd add a bit of intelligence amongst all the Fo3 hype.

Its only relevance is that I did it, and that PS:T is a great game.

Not really NMA newspost material

Awesome stuff.

Annoying that they only posted the first part, though. But great stuff. Love the design documents.

Actually, it's posted in parts at my request, after MCA asked me if I minded it being very, very long.

They sent me 10 pages of answers plus 185 pages of documentation. It's a bit much to release in one go.

Any idea on how long between the releases of the interview parts?

Very interesting to read about this game I think. It's great that they gave you such a large volume of answers. I've always gotten the impression that Chris was a bit lukewarm in how he views the game.

Great timing as I finished my replay of the game yesterday. The Sigil parts of the game are just fantastic. Incredibly interesting stuff to play through, but I do think the game kinda stumbles after you leave Ravel's Maze. Love the encounter with The Transcended One in the end though.

A few days, it's up to Dhruin.

We talk about the "stumbling" after Ravel's Maze in part 2 of the interview, incidentally.

Man, Avellone is an awesome writer. I can't believe he wrote so much quality dialogue, especially while he was working on Fallout 2.

I hope he gets his hands on developing a solid cRPG again. I've never heard anything about this Aliens RPG, I guess I should look it up.

Great read. Having recently finished Torment for the first time makes this even more interesting to me.

A few suspicions of mine were confirmed here. Nice. Er, not just the suspicion confirmation, that is.

The next part better put MCA against the wall on Pages of Pain so we can have a big fat denial/admission on the record.

It doesn't, I didn't ask about Pages of Pain.

You had the chance to submit questions to me, Per, I asked you, you should've done that, then. Dumbass

But you know how my eyes always kind of glaze over when I try to read your posts!

Seriously though, it's like the #1 question in the universe.

Also: myths!!!! :aiee: <-- for completeness

Well, it didn't occur to me, very honest. I vaguely remember discussing it once, but it didn't occur during the interview, and MCA is on a holiday now, so shitz.

Pages of Pain don't have too much in common with the game. It's a good book (maybe even very good) that's set in Planescape multiverse.

The Pages of Pain controversy is that it shares a lot of PS:T's elements, if I recall correctly. Amnesiac immortal person wandering Sigil is the theme of both the book and the game.

People have been wondering if MCA was "inspired" for his ideas by that book.

-----

Part 2 is up, including a very readable project outline of Last Rites, which MCA used to pitch the idea to the heads, and a sound file of Falls-From-Grace being kidnapped (good fun!)

That was an excellent read, great job Brother None.

With some of the promises that have been made about Mask of the Betrayer, I hope it will be a good experience. The fact sheet even mentioned Planescape: Torment. Obviously hypespeak, but if they can create a game that has some of those qualities, I'll be all over it.
I think Obsidian has a good chance of creating something away from the norm with that expansion, they certainly have the talen for it.

Thanks for the interview.
