The French headscarf law

Kharn, if a solution was implemented by a communist country, it bloody well is evil or at least questionable. Or are you saying that oppressing religions and enforcing atheism (a common practice under all communist regimes) isn't a bad thing? I am sure millions of people who lived under communism would disagree.

And welfare isn't communist. That's bullshit. Visit a hospital, a school or an orphanage in Bulgaria, Romania or Russia (or Croatia, for that matter) and you'll see what I mean. Communist idea of "welfare" was keeping entire society pauperized and starving. What do you think, that communist regimes were overthrown because people were unhappy with the fact that they couldn't vote? Hell no, you don't see citizens of Kuwait or Brunei complaining about lack of democratic liberties. Welfare may be part of the idea of communism, but it was never implemented successfully. What good are free colleges and medical facilities if hospitals are shit and your diploma gets you a lousy job for a miserable wage? The only communist country with decent free medical care is Cuba, but getting a free pacemaker prior to returning to the cardboard shack you reside in isn't exactly my idea of welfare.

You don't see the problem here?

Wellfare was a socialist idea, and something implemented by communists.

It was, in fact, "a solution implemented by a communist country". Hence, by your definition, it is evil

The problem with your argument is this: you're trying to argue that enforcing religious rules like the French do is oppressive and evil. Your back-up for this statement is "it's so communist". This is a very weak argument that lies on an even weaker premis.

The statement is not invalid, but you need to think of a more sensible argument then "it's communist"

I see your point. But I wasn't using the communist overtone of the idea as an absolute argument that proves its wrongness, but I merely stated it as an interesting fact that suggests the decision was undemocratic and questionable. The actual argumentation followed in the second paragraph.
