The Glow: no charred bodies (German version)

Actually, we're not talking about the rat animations (pay attention); we're talking about charred bodies (be it rat or human) arts.

I would be grateful if someone identified the Fallout German version that is missing those and the FRMs that are missing. So we could pack them into a zip file and make a patch.

Well I was refering to the frms in general for all charred deaths, not just rats and people. Also From what he said in his last post, it appears all the firedeath and charred to nothing frms were removed from the german version.

Now I do have the english game version. I may not keep it - but the savegame where I'm standing right above the Glow worked perfectly fine after patching the english game to 1.1 as well

All right, I'd like you to do one more thing to confirm this is a case of missing critter frms.

Please install (humongous or whatever it's called in German) your German version, then insert the English disc and copy the CRITTER.DAT file in your fallout dir. You should then have a German version with all the missing FRMs.

And out of curiosity, did you see any children in the game?

There are no children in fallout1, or there are, but they all look like the junkies in the Den from Fallout2. The child frm were new in Fo2.

Although I can''t name a location with children, I'm sure there must have been some... Why else woudl there be a Childkiller title? Are you sure there weren't any in the Hub or Shady Sands perhaps?

I can't recall a town location with children... But there is a random encounter in the coastal area, where you meet a father and son with whom you can barter. I'm positive there is a child there.

I also seem to remember Saul's lil' brother in Junktown. Or was there one?

I remember seeing children in Shday Sands, but they had frm's like the junkies in the Den in Fo2 and the description was sometihng like "You see a boy"...

I can do the master.dat thing tomorrow -- will do. About children. No, I've never seen any at all (yet). But down in the Glow there was a very small body. Perhaps that ... would have been a child.

Can we get confirmation from someone else that charred corpses are always missing entirely from the German version? If so, this would definitely be mentionable in my guide.

Edit: Oops, only read the first page of posts so I duplicated Silencer's request. Well, no confirmation yet it seems. Also, when posting screenshots, keep them small, small, SMALL! In terms of file size that is - you can usually convey the critical info even if it's not crystal crisp.

Yes, that works Silencer. It is the german version of the game I have - running with the critter.dat file of the english original.

So, the maps weren't modified after all. I guess the engine simply removes any objects when there is no graphics found to represent them.

Here is a picture, as a URL this time because ... well, I could keep it small, but it's already dark as can be and jpg's tend to get extremely messy at higher compressions. So instead of showing it as a picture I'll give you the URL.

Interestingly, the text for the charred corpses seems to be present and in german. "Ueberreste von: Frau", etc. So they are most likey in another file and truthfully it doesn't matter if the text remains just so long as the graphics is gone, from the censors point of view.

But I haven't seen any (living) kids in the game. Neither english nor german version. If you know of a very specific place or time (a random encounter at the coastline might be hard to get) I can check that out for you too.

One last thing: critter.dat in german Fallout file size is 113 MB.

The hub in old town has about 6 kids running around it, same with the farm part of shadey sande. check those places for children.

there is a fallout 1 children patch aswell. Didnt got it to work tho...
could be becourse I didnt start a new game. I 100% sure I encounterd a boy in the hub. He was a son of a farmer.

The patch is in nma download site

Yes, there are kids running around flapping their hands in the air in Shady sands, and surely everywhere else where you remember them.

So, this is in critter.dat as well. Now - knowing all that, I wonder what else was cut out of the game. Considering that the german critter.dat is considerably smaller than the english one.

As well, there were kids with the blades in the boneyard, IIRC

Interestingly, my current version has charred bodies, but no kids, I guess it's an English one. Jammet's has kids, but no charred bodies, making it some kind of a German low-violence version.

Maybe he ought to try using a flamer on a kid character and see what happens

My UK version has no kids, charred or otherwise. Exchanging the exe for the US version and adding all the kid graphics adds the live kids into the game, but not the charred body in the Glow for some reason. This could be related to the fact that kids don't do special deaths (e.g. the Flamethrower just knocks them over). If they don't do that in the US version, I seriously doubt they do it in the German no-blood one.

How do i know where's version from? i have kids...at least in Klamath and in The Den (those bastards!) i have.

But since i'm from Portugal i don't think my game is US.
