I told you, I know that already.

You misunderstood my question. To whit: They're across the country. Why would they call themselves the New California Republic?

Unless they left, en masse, crossing the country, letting their fields go to waste, disregard whatever trading routes might be gradually making them rich (or at least able to survive a bit better than their neighbors), all for...what... a myth?

It makes even less sense than the Brotherhood of Steel moving across the country. Doubly so since, in this case, they decided to keep the name New California Republic.

If the NCR is in Fallout 3, I'll be confused and upset. They have even less reason to be there than the Brotherhood of Steel.

Yeah, exactly. I can accept a Brotherhood presence on the west coast, but the NCR better not be there at all, even if its the lone diplomat. The Brotherhood might have the ability and technology to make it accross the nation in one peace, but I doubt the NCR would. Plus they would be more wrapped up in their own affairs: I doubt what is happening in Maryland/Virginia really interests them a whole lot.

But I wouldn't be suprised if you get someone making a reference to it, like the stereotypical "gruff loner mercenary" in a bar.

Where you read about those guys? I've never seen 'em in the previews.

Factions we know around now are:

Brotherhood of Steel's Lyons' Pride - Lyons' and his sycophants
BOS Outcasts - The TRUE brotherhood, probrably will be showed as evil
Enclave
Super Mutants - or whatever the hell are they
Talon Company - Why this name makes me think they're former US Army Forces?

Lyons' Pride is the elite BoS squad, led by Sarah Lyons, the daughter of Owyn Lyons. It's not the name of the whole faction.
