The Gun That was not worth it when you finally got it

Problem 1: The 10mm smg or the combat shotgun would have done the same thing.
Problem 2: You get the assault rifle much later compared to the smg.
Problem 3: The ammo is far more uncommon when you finnaly get it.

1: Assault Rifle does more damage than the 10mm SMG at 8-16, and has longer range than the Shotgun or SMG at a max of 45.
2: I got the Assault Rifle before I even saw an SMG. I got it from the leader of the Slags.
3: Vault City Guards are a goldmine.

1. range doesnt matter, spread is to high on range attacks, so burst is no option
2. first SMGs available in Den

That's just the thing... Due to the EXTREMELY non-linear nature of the game (by comparison even Fallout looks like it takes place on a rail that delivers you to a set destination on a set schedule) there really is no "around the time you reach New Reno" that differs from "around the time you reach Broken Hills".

Its called meta gaming.

Normally your led by following the flask trail to vault city, from there to broken hills -> new reno

For me its also the Salvatore laser gun, soo weak :o
also the FN-FAL, I loved that gun in JA2 but the fallout pendant is only mediocre with ultra rare ammunition
I play DotA2. I know EXACTLY what meta gaming is... -_-

But what I was alluding to about the game's non-linearity is that, not JUST the fact that you have the choice to go wherever you want, even the quests and references point you in all directions, at once. The only places that you aren't led to at close to the beginning of the game are the locations strewn on the westernmost and southernmost boarders of the map. Everything else you get placed on your map almost immediately, and various references direct you to Redding and New Reno at the same time as Vault City and Modoc. Following the primary quest and ignoring all else, the game certainly points you to follow the path of Klamath, The Den, (Modoc) Vault City, (Broken Hills) NCR, Vault 15, Vault 13. But there's still so much more game than just the primary quest, and needless to say, it does a damn find job of sidetracking you at every turn. And I don't mean in that quaint and lame "I'll pay you for every Scrap Metal you bring me" kind of way. Good, rich, robust and deep sidetracking. =)

DLC: The Red Glare.

That gun wouldn't have been that bad if it wasn't so seriously 'overrated' by developers. Signature weapon for DLC? Achievement worthy? Seriously?

In reality, however, it was quite handy for me when I got surrounded by Tunnelers. If it was just another big (unique) weapon with not much big commotion about it, it would have been a lot better.

I play a modded game that (among other things) makes combat WAY more deadly. So the Red Glare was actually extremely useful to me, since at long range I could pop off a few of the surprisingly common rockets and they would blow any Tunneler or Marked Man formation to pieces. Even just a single proximity hit would take out two or three people all bunched up, and I could dump a ton of explosives.

Not to mention using them against Deathclaws. Rawr basically lasted about a second before I emptied the entire rocket canister into his head.

For Fallout 2 I would have to say the FN FAL. You think it would be this beastly assault rifle and it is just a disappointment.
