The "I'm a musician, kiss my ass" thread.

I make what I call 32 bit industrial funk music, best way I can describe it. Mainly work with midi instruments and digital manipulation but I'm working on getting some recording equipment up to start writing some real music.

Just finished up my favorite work to date, a cover of apocalyptica's hall of mountain king.

Much thanks to Little Robot for the input :D

Here's my favorite original work. A few of you have already heard this one though...

There's a couple five or six more but they all suck for the most part. Nothing serious for now, mostly just cool sounding tunes I came up with when messing around and built songs around. Just trying to build my skills with the softwares and composing for now.

Me trying to be a guitar hero

You'll excuse the constipated face but I don't like being in front of the camera very much...
Damn fine
I've been playing the guitar for a couple years, much envy of that skill level

exactly. you can tell which singers actually maintain their voice, and these singers are rarely heavy drinker and/or drug users.
I hate to add to a months old discussion but I totes agree. A good example is Dani Filth, of Dani And The Filths. Amazing on records, almost unlistenable live. Marilyn manson too, but he's not a smoker, just a shitty singer. On the other hand, one of my favorite singers, ICS Vortex, is a heavy smoker and drinker and can sing like the finest opera star and sounds amazing both on stage and recorded. Doesn't really have that much endurance though, sings in short bursts in a lot I've seen and in the arcturus shipwrecked dvd he gets pretty rough and even sits down for a couple songs, visibly winded :D Check out dimmu borgir's sacreligious scorn or arcturus's chaos path for examples of his best work imo. His ex-arcturus buddy Garm was a pretty bitchin smoker too. Probably better than vortex but his style is something much different, especially in Ulver.

Woo, this is in fact pretty old.

I actually hate music, to be honest. I do sing something at times though... Hope that'll suffice to pass me as a musician.

You should use soundcloud or something, not many people would download a raw mp3 anymore. I tried a couple of them, sounds awesome. Do you do all the instruments yourself?

Forty-eight hours or so after being introduced to dubstep by Little Robot and suddenly I'm an official dubstepper. I think. I've actually only heard like three dubstep songs and I wasn't really paying attention while listening. And they were all by that skillrex duder and everyone's like "Dude he's not dubstep gosh." Nevertheless, this is what I assume the genre is like

^That is indeed dubstep.

I play the piano well and several instruments not so well. I have a truly hellish singing voice, but like to sing - especially when drunk. Much to the annoyance of others.

OK, maybe I don't hate music, but I certainly am not a big fan of it. I really want to find music that I can listen to on and on, and the thing is, the genre does not matter at all.

I haven't so far, some of it can have a really good bit in it but then it gets completely spoiled later on.

That's not how music works. That's not how anything works. Everything gets boring after a while

a couple of years ago i had a band called euthanasia, i was the lead voice and guitar. but since the band is over i only play or sing at home now.

I know a few NMAers liked and bought my previous album so I figured I'd do a bit of gravediggin' to introduce my new band.

DURR DURR DURR

In all seriousness, Engines of Malice is Roxy from Contre Jour ( a cool, semi-famous french cold wave / synth pop band ) on vocals and myself on keys, programming and guitars.

We sound like something between Fever Ray, Björk and Nine Inch Nails but with our own twist.

Here is our first single, "Surrender" !
This song was written, recorded, tweaked, re-tweaked and produced between August of 2012 and last February.

That was really good. Is all your music in a similar vein? Would be nice to hear more. Very atmospheric. I'm usually not a big fan of electronic music, but this is just how I like it.

Thank you guys !

It's in the same vein yes. Some songs are more electronic/industrial than this one, others feature eastern instruments more heavily, while some are almost entirely orchestral but all feature the same eerie atmosphere.

We are going to unveil new songs on our FB page in the weeks to come. Our goal is to build some anticipation for a few live shows, ideally before this summer :)
