I'm making this thread for people to discuss indie games and developers.
Let's be honest, AAA games these days are mostly garbage, sequels no one asked for or remakes and remasters of oldies.

The future of gaming as a fun hobby all rests in the hands of Indie developers. So let us know about your favourite indie games and devs, or just talk about that indie game you're eagerly waiting for.

I'm going to post the name of some Indie games I enjoy(ed) playing:

And here are some in-development indie games I'm interested in:

And here's a list of indie games I don't own/never played but I'm also interested in:
These lists are not complete, there are plenty of more games I could include in each list, but I made them without any particular order of games and just put whatever games I could remember.

Now it's your turn, talk about anything you feel like as long as it's indie related.

It fixed Charisma utilization that failed to exist in most RPGs now. Highly reccommended it for multiple playthrough. Also if you are LOTR fan, it gives a bit of cool ideas how early Steampunk! Numenor would look like.

You have both Phantom Doctrine and Weird West on the list, so I recommend checking out Hard West from PD devs.
There's also a second one made by completely another studio that I have not played yet, but heard good things about.

Underrail is criticized as pure combat game, but it has a really great Sneak system, a lot of dialogue options with 3 different skills (Persuasion, Threatening and Mercantile) and some really nice C&C. Earlier this year extra main quest paths have been added and you can finish the entire game without killing anyone but final boss.

Expeditions Conquistador and Viking (I haven't played the new Rome one) have similar set up, but differ a bit.
Viking is more traditional with your character being a playable character that fights and explores alongside their smaller group of companions, while Conquistador has you control a much bigger party and travel similarly to HoMMIII (plus your skills matter less than professions of your party members).
Both games offer a lot of choice.

Buy them for me and I will play them. :wiggle:
Yeah, Charisma is totally a dump stat in most (or all) modern RPG.
Thanks for the suggestion. Wishlisted now. :ok:
I hate being forced to build a character that can craft, and I heard that you need to craft to get the best equipment in Underrail.
More good suggestions, I think I own Conquistador on GOG.com, I have no idea why I never tried it.

That was fixed- previously crafted stuff was way better than the even hand placed uniques which were better just sold off.

One of the updates rebalanced all of their stats and added unique abilities to each one.
So for example the Glück is the only pistol with burst fire.

Personally only invested in crafting skills for the extra checks (like fixing a generator with Electronics) and only occasionally used it to make repair kits or tranq bolts.

Atom RPG is only $15 US. Good game! DON'T BE SO CHEAP! Maybe Steam will have it on sale for Halloween.
I always create a crafting build since I am a tool monkey IRL. In a survival situation, you are what I would call "meat" or "target practice." :P

I noticed you mentioned Phantom Doctrine in that list. I bought it some time ago and found it a terrible game.
Mutant Year Zero I liked. Encased is not bad. Atom and Trudograd both good.
I have to restart The Looker which is an oddball game but looks good.

Love the new looK! A much better vibe tbh.

Everyone in this thread should play Atom RPG but ya know I can't say that much more without someone killing me. Barotrauma is good.

Like one instance in which my character get to negotiate with a bandit leader that also a former veteran legionary. Even if he knows the theory, got the right skills points invested (call them persuasion, streetwise, trade and bunch some) so long he doesn't have right charisma value he get shoved off like some weirdo or autistic person trying to act. Even in the context of trying to striking some decent conversation. If you don't have the right charisma, you get to told to piss off if you ask someone background or backstory.

And there is also hidden Charisma checks that the lead developer has said to exist throughout the game, you can't exactly sense it unless some multiple playthrough be done.

It's A$21.50 here. And that's too expensive for me at the moment. I can't afford to spend any money at all on games.
My savings are almost non-existing, after having to pay to fix the roof and skylight, fix the oven, fix the water heater and now to fix the garage door that is literally falling apart. Winter is merciless to old houses like ours. And we also have to pay the normal expenses like mortgage, body corporate fees, water and electricity. :whatever:

Nope, no money to spend on games for me for quite a while. :aiee:

You know what, i would actually be glad to do that and it's no joke.

Need to get Age of Decadence too. And i honestly just laughed that the game's page has its own section on why the game is hard, but this actually made me want the game more.

Phoenix p[oint is a kind of X Com clone. I hope it's better than Phantom Doctrine.

I've played age of Decadence and it's spin off Dungeon Rats

Also you will get live-service feedback from Age of Decadence developer who constantly replied to most people post and comment in the community section. He is very active. Heck you can even get some decent non-wiki, non-game Behind The Scene lore commentary from time to time in the comment section.

The game's universe deserve some Fallout 2 style sequel treatment, wide nations vying for some territory instead of mere city states. Lots of opportunity to explore more of the world magitek sword & sandal fantasy legacy.

People like that forget that building a good RPG character requires player's skill.
That's what real RPGs are all about and character building and decision making are the whole point of the genre. It's a mental skill genre, not a reflex or button masher skill like many of the now so-called RPGs are.

Yeah, no shit, it's how a RPG should be. I'll disagree on the notion that EVERYTHING is dictated by the character's skills because some player skill has to be involved like what strategy are you gonna use or how you react to what happens in the battlefield, but a big portion is still determined by the character's skills and RNG.

This thinking that player skill should determine everything is caused by so many recent action games with RPG elements being treated as full blown RPGs. They go from Kingdom Hearts or Dark Souls and assume every RPG is the same thing when they are not and then leave a negative review because the RPG is behaving like an actual RPG and not an action game that happens to have basic shit like attributes and critical hits.
