"The Nursery" to be built by Norway

I stumbled into an interesting story today, looks like Norway is going to build a Van-Buren-Nursery-Type facility to house plant seeds in the event of a cataclysm, such as a nuclear conflict:
Norway is to build a "doomsday vault" in a mountain close to the North Pole that will house a vast seed bank to ensure food supplies in the event of catastrophic climate change, nuclear war or rising sea levels, New Scientist says.
See the story here.

Dammit, I was going to post about this in General Discussion today, because I got these post-apoc vibes seeing it in the paper not fifteen minutes ago. Locating this vault is going to be such a campaign hook! It will be guarded by robots with snapping metal claws and tasers.

Well what a coincidence, I saw it in a paper too, 15 minutes before posting.

Once again, I'm just too quick for you, lizard.

no-no-no, it will be big clunky robots with rocket shooter on one arm and minigun on the other.

Near the north pole? does that mean on Svalbard perhaps? A small island owned by Norway a litle to the north from Norway.

If you cared enough to follow the link, you'd have learned.

Yes, it is Spitsbergen, n00b.

EDIT: Also, Svalbard is the name of the province, not the island.

But that's where I am storing Adolf Hitler's body in suspended animation!

The robots guarding Adolf Hitler's body in suspended animation look basically like nazi helmets suspended on skittering insect legs.

The rats guarding Adolf Hitler's body in suspended animation have red eyes and canes and go about spouting sentences that begin with the words, "Back in the Cretaceous when I was young, we were all nocturnal and LIKED it."

And yet none of you pranksters noticed that I must have been meaning "Nursery" not "Reservation" :P

Well, I did, but I figured it'd be funnier if your mistake went unnoted for a while.

Just another reason to have Fallout 3 in Europe...particularly Northern since you can have frozen wastes in addittion to desert wastes.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Nice idea, although it would be a shame if it was fried by a catastrophic disaster itself, like climate change, a nuke or something similar.

New Scientist[/url]] even accelerated global warming would take many decades to penetrate the mountain vault.

Hmm. So a roleplaying quest might end with your discovery of a vast catalogue of dust after the centuries since the war began. But that seems more unlikely than actually getting funding for the project, which they are doing.
