The one game you've played the most...ever

I'd have to say Sid Meier's Colonization, simply because I've owned it since it came out in the mid 1990s and have played it at intervals since then. I still play it occasionally.

It's the one computer game I've played the most.

I suppose another reason is that it never had a sequel, so there was never an opportunity to upgrade.

it saddens me to say it, but the one game I've spent most hours in-game with is most likely WoW...

but not counting that, games I've played several times and keep coming back to are:

Fallout 1+2
Baldur's Gate
Deus Ex
System Shock 2
Halo 1+2
Final Fantasy VII
Heroes of Might & Magic 3+4

The one game I've played most in my life is TOEE. I'd say around 7 full playthroughs, if not more.

For multiplayer, the two most played are Counter-Strike and Disciples II.

Shit, I have wasted so much time playing games that it's literally IMPOSSIBLE for me to even fathom which game I have spent most time in...

It could be anything from Wolfenstein 3D to World of Warcraft... I can seriously list up 10 games I have played *a lot* and not have any clue whatsoever as to which of them I have spent the most time with...

But I remember playing Carmageddon 2 often (perhaps because of it's kickass soundtrack?).

I never kept track of how much I played my games. I guess the game I played the most is either Fallout 2, Diablo 2 or Half-Life.

I played Fallout 2 the proper way - from the start to the end - 4 times, but in the early day I restarted to correct newbie mistakes more than 15 times, so I played it a LOT.

But no game was more played by me than Diablo 2, I tried all builds possible with all classes several times; 8 years of blind devotion to a game is a lot...

Maybe Quake 2 on psx (multiplayer splitscreen)

Or puzzle fighter

or C&C1

Nah Civilisation 2 propably takes the cake.

I totally forgot Wolfenstien 3d. I spent hours looking for all the secret doors and even trying to navigate the maze like levels was a difficult task.

If we are counting online games, its probably a little MUD called Hidden Worlds that I used to play.

Otherwise, Wasteland. I played it when it came out for a very long time, but couldn't finish it. I got stuck in the sewers, without any way to leave and both of my save disks were with me stuck there. Probably encountered a bug, but who knows.

So after a few more months I played through it again and got near the end but couldn't beat it for some reason. I don't remember why, but I couldn't find something or other. There weren't any walkthroughs or resources for hints back then other than hoping Scorpia in CGW might answer a question about the game you were stuck in. And of course the gaming mag hints were seldom about anything late in games.

Then we got rid of our Apple IIe, & bought a PC, so I couldn't play it anymore. Eventually I bought the DOS version and managed to play through it to the end.

I played through it again a couple years ago too.

All told, had to be some 200+ hours.

I got stuck there my first time through as well. There's that pit that you can use a rope to get across but if you try jumping in, you have to split up your party and climb out one at a time. That was before I ever figured out that you could split up your party so I thought I was fucked and started over awhile later.

That might be what happened to me. It was soo long ago that I really don't remember. But I do seem to remember doing the pit climb in my last playthrough, just a few years ago. That time I was not shy with using a walkthrough when I felt like it, though. It might not be an actual coding bug, but I'd still consider it a design flaw at the time. While the manual said you could split up your party, there certainly wasn't much reason to think it would be of any value to do it one by one in that particular spot.

No biggie though, it was fairly common to run into stuck spots or even game ending bugs back in the early days and we didn't complain too much. I was frusterated, but I wasn't too upset about just playing it again.

I would probably have to say Fallout 2. I was also a bit of a Ultima Online whore way back in the day when it was still fun.

I don't think I've seen anyone mention Super Mario 3. That's definitely the game that's been a part of most of my life. My dad got it for the NES in 1991 I think and I've been playing it for years. I had it for the SNES, with an emulator on PC, and recently I purchased it for the Wii.

Beat it many times (fuck the whistles) and I think I still end up finding something new every time I play. Like those white mushroom houses, that was my most recent "big" discovery I've made on my own.
