The Railroad

A faction based on saving synths that may or may not turn on them and kill them eventually? Yes nothing could go wrong with that.

Looks seriously at you.

'Nothing. Ever. Can. Stop. Us.'
You're staring into my very SOUL!

You don't have a soul, you're actually a synth! dun dun duunn!

Nooooooo!
What a twist!

I play Bethesda and while I know it won't happen I feel paranoid that some Synth will jump up and say, "Heya Bob 2! You're a synth!'.

SPOILER ALERT - The protagonist was a synth all along.

The end.

/haven't finished the game, wouldn't be surprised.

It's not, hopefully.

Does anyone else think that its weird that you literally become the director of the Institute, yet the Railroad doesnt use this to their advantage? Instead they blow up the Institute because... Why, exactly? The Institute is home to tons of valuable technology and resources that could be used to help the Commonwealth as a whole. But nope - it must be destroyed, killing possibly hundreds in the process.

I swear Bethesda just has a boner for explosions. No matter which path you take, either the Prydwen, Institute, or both get destroyed in a giant ball of flame with no attempt at commandeering them.

So was the Enclave Oil Rig, yet they blew that up also in Fallout 2.

Technology and advancements made from such dark experiments aren't something people want to use, its not worth it.

I dont know how well this relates to the Fallout universe, but in real life we dont seem to have any issue using the technology and medical advancements that came from the Nazis.

I feel like my point still stands. Being as the main character becomes the director of the Institute, it seems foolish that the Railroad would pursue a solution with such bloodshed before even trying a peaceful/diplomatic path first.

That would imply there was a peaceful solution.

You becoming the director means jack shit as the various departments are self-functioning, and can basically veto what you say if it goes against the ideals of The Institute. You aren't going to be able to go "hey guys, lets stop all the kidnappings, and synth replacements, and treating all the synths like slaves" and then have everyone in The Institute do it. You becoming The Director isn't going to bring about any large scale change like that, because that's not how these sort of organizations work.

Its entirely naive to expect something as unrealistic as that to happen, and everyone in the Railroad knows that, so they don't waste their time on something they know is impossible.

Plenty of people did actually, and then we revised history and made most of those advancements look like they came from other places, when it as really Germans who defected that made most of it

I think you're right. On the Institute's terminals you could actually read about all of its various directors proposing and vetoing projects.

Source: http://fallout.gamepedia.com/The_Institute_terminals#Research_Proposals (Obvious spoilers)

So it would seem Father (and Nate/Nora if they choose to go with the Institute) aren't the sole decision makers for the Institute.

Just got a game-breaking bug during their questline. So I'm on the "Tradecraft" quest, retrieved the prototype and I'm supposed to go back to meet Deacon at the Old church. I go there and it turns out he is somewhere south of the B-something diner where Trudy sells her wares. So I go there, and now the marker says he is in the church. I go there, and he's south of the diner again. So I cannot complete the quest at all, because he keeps teleporting. Haven't tried to use the console yet, but it annoyed me enough to turn the game off in utter disgust. maybe will try to resolve it tomorrow.

Well yea. Fallout 4 has the intellectual and emotional maturity of a Michael Bay film so of course they go with the BANG BANG SHOOT EM UP EXPLODEY route.

In skyrim they made me head of the entire mages guild, promoted direct from I think apprentice even though that Mages college clearly has a whole staff of people ahead of me. But I'm the dragonborn because I'm the dragonborn because I'm the dragonborn. Why? Fuck you for asking questions.

Just like I'm General of the Militiamen and head of the Institute and everything else. Might as well crown me God-King Scrotie McBoogerballs of the Commonwealth as soon as I start the game.

In Fallout 3 every majors factions was competing to be the one to activate the water purifier. In Fallout 4 every majors faction is competing to have the privilege to blow up the !Not Master. Do you see a pattern?

This kills me inside, I know Bethesda is, or at least at one point was able to write interesting dialog and craft interesting places because Morrowind was a pretty interesting place with factions that locked you out of them if you join another (the houses) and guilds that conflicted (Thieves/fighters) as well as requiring you to prove that you are actually skilled in relevant skills for that guild. Even fallout 3 had some interesting places with interesting npc.
All fallout 4 has been is fetch quest after fetch quest with bland NPC's and poor dialog. The male VA was so bad I ended up starting a new character as the female VA isnt nearly as flat.

I guess Todd "violence is funny" Howard is more captivated by explosions than worried about a strong story with quality side quests.

The entire world is waiting for Neo the chosen one to talk to the oracle and morpheus in concord and save them all, so much so that it looks like no one in the entire game is able to do anything them selves. At least it appears that the BOS are Institute are doing something, or have done something at one point.

Why are they so engaged in freeing synths when there are still people dying of thirst and hunger or just the extremes amount of violence.
I'd ask PETA that same question. If I could manage to have a conversation with someone from PETA without slapping them in the face.

Oh this is brilliant, you have to seek the Railroad in order to find out how to use that device? So much for choosing what faction you join since I'm assuming I'll be forced to join them now hmmm? The thing is I don't want to be forced to seek them out as I'm sure I'll have to partake in trials to sleep with all the women synths, please them, and break some out from the bad guys in order to bring them to the base for freedom then become a high rank officer in order for the Railroad to look at the device.(I haven't completed the main "story" yet as I get bored a couple minutes after starting up the game).

I sought them out as per the quest, but had the brotherhood built the teleporter then after I got back from the institute I went talk to railroad to see they wanted me to do anything now that I was inside. The morons wouldn't talk to me! For Christs sack why are the characters (and writers) so stupid, I could be their inside man! I could talk to synths inside the institute and spread the word.

That is a bug then.

After returning from The Institute you are supposed to be able to talk to Desdemona who says she heard you got into the Institute, after you tell her you did, she explains you heard you got in there with the BoS's help, and says she hopes you infiltrated them for the Railroad, or at least that your true alliances lay with the Railroad, at which point she is supposed to give you the quest to find Patriot, starting "Underground Undercover"

Well that makes me feel a little bit better, well Bethesda is known for it's bugs.
