The Road the movie.

Blood Meridian is recognized by many as McCarthy's best, I'd say the largest majority of his fan base and most critics consider it to be so.

Yep, ranked among the 10 best novels of the 20th century, Harold Bloom helps. But generally unappreciated when released- it has developed something of a following- which is why I think the Road got such a nice treatment from the critics. It was kind of a "Holy shit we better honor this guy before he dies, because he's really great and we totally missed it."

I also liked Outer Dark a lot- one of the more creepy and disturbing stories- to adjectives for very different reasons. I kind of want to pick up Suttree and will probably reread the Crossings (I didn't care for it much the first time, but then I was expecting something different.

In a fucking shopping cart?

Lone Wolf and Cub much?

You're really stretching it here. He said he was inspired to write this book after he became a father.

I've heard that Blood Meridian is awesome. It's on a long list of books i want to read....

'The Road' was the first of McCarthy's books that I read, and while I enjoyed it, I didn't think it was the best of post-apocalyptic fiction I've read, or even amongst the top ten. (Of contemporary work, I really like 'Brief History of the Dead', 'The Pest House', and 'Oryx & Crake'. The all-time best, in my opinion, is 'Cat's Cradle')

I didn't think it was a bad book; it held my interest and got me to read other McCarthy books. I just finished 'Blood Meridian', and I really enjoyed it. I haven't decided if I like it better then 'All the Pretty Horses', but it's good none-the-less.

As has been previously stated, Fallout 1 & 2 preceded 'The Road', and McCarthy has probably played either one of them about as much as Clancy has played Rainbow 6 on his XBox

The Road

Looks like an interesting post-apoc movie. Based on novel by Cormac McCarthy.

Synopsis:

Based on Cormac McCarthy's best-selling and Pulitzer Prize winning novel, "The Road" is the epic post-apocalyptic tale of a journey taken by a father and his young son across a barren landscape that was blasted by an unnamed cataclysm that destroyed civilization and most life on earth.

The book was good.

Movies based on books, unfortunately, tend to suck - and this one doesn't look like it's going to be an exception. "Run. Protect. Sacrifice. Kill"? Egads.

novel was "ok", but overhyped. also very holywoodian ending that didn't fit at all.

from the trailer i see here, they took liberties with the book, as usual. visuals are good, but i'm fearing they'll make it actionpacked...

i'll be sure to keep an eye on it though.

Audiobook is amazing too, it has extremely good acting. Listening to the actor almost in tears over canned peaches had me feeling guilty at the supermarket.

"No Country For Old Men" is an awesome movie. However, "The Road" isn't being made by Coen brothers so I'm doubtful myself about this.

A movie forum that I'm on has been following the development closely and they seem very satisfied and excited. Honestly I'll be happy just to get some of the poetic prose presented out loud in voiceover to a backdrop of scenes of total devastation.

The world looks a lot brighter in the movie than I had imagined from the book. Not as grim, somehow.

It'll be worth a look though.

Link didn't work for me. This one should.

I....don't know what to think...
The epic-usual-bullshit-music-that-is-always-to be-found-in-trailers made me confused :freak:

i bought the book now, seem good,
i also bought wasteland comic book, hope its good.

and movie seems intresting but want to read book first :)

"The Road" - has anyone seen this film?

So I'm actually surprised that no one talks about that.
It's been in U.S. Cinemas since November 25th, though it has a very odd release privacy, it was shown in a few little cinemas all over the U.S.A, there was just a little PR work etc. What the fuck is wrong with them? The budget of the movie was very high, there are "high class" actors in it and nobody knows the movie is even existing!

So my question - did anyone manage to see this little gem?

I was going to go see it back in October, as it was slated to release the week of my birthday. Then, they shelved it for a month. I've been trying to make sure that the trailer makes the rounds in the hopes that there'll be enough interest generated for the local theater to bring it in, but a lot of people shut down when they hear "by the same guy that wrote "No Country for Old Men." The overwhemlming majority of South Texans absolutely despised the end of that film.

If I have to wait for it on DVD, so be it. The book was one of the most engrossing post-apocalyptic reads to come along in quite some time, and all the footage I've seen seems to indicate that they've done a pretty good job adapting the book's singularly intense bleakness to film.

Yeah I mean, obtaining a release for it its next to impossible right now from where I'm stationed.(which is about an hour away from toronto)

Did anyone catch the howie scream in the trailer?
