The Roleplaying Thread - What Fallout 4 lacked in opportunities

OOOoooooh.... I remember something... Something fucking BIG.... You can find out at The Institute that the mayor in Diamond City is actually a synth but... You can't confront him about it. Why not? Not talking about a big quest here. Just the option to confront him and expose him.

Actually, and I hate to be the Devil's Advocate here, you can. You have to be Level 30 to do it but there IS a quest about it. Basically you take the elevator up to his office once you hit 30 and he'll be in there, yelling at a security guard before throwing him out a window. I don't remember the specifics but you can either kill him, take him to jail, or let him go. Once you've done that, his secretary (the blonde bitch) becomes the new mayor instead.

Yeah, here's the quest: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/In_Sheep's_Clothing

Only after you destroy the Institute. Member New Vegas? Where you could start quests when you wanted to? Rather than when Emil and his superior talent dictated you could?

Oh... Nevermind then. But if it was after the ending then I stopped playing cause. Yknow, the game is over.

So it actually doesn't matter if you know, it's just an event?
It's Fallout 3 all over again O.0

some war story with an emotional hook and fails miserably due to lack of talent.
One of the main problems with the FO4 "Finding your son" thing, is it assumes you care.

It assumes that because this kid just happens to be related to your character, that you have some kind of bond with him, despite the fact that you only knew him for 5 minutes in the pre-war section.

I love small plastic thing. Small plastic thing is the perfect emotional tool. Since the day I laid eyes on small plastic thing at the e3 demo I knew that it would be my mission to find small plastic thing. No matter how far, I would find small plastic thing. So when I found small plastic thing, and then the realisation that small plastic thing had turned into ambiguous mastermind properly hit, I was shocked. How could such a small, small plastic thing turn into a diabolical monster? Then small plastic thing, who was now old plastic thing explained his motives to me, and I was contempt in aiding old plastic thing by doing miscellaneous errands such as sabotaging a irl recreation of Optimus Prime.

>proof that small plastic thing was an excellent motivator. Screw the h8rz

Just kidding the game was shit. So was the writing.

Godd Howard is pretty tiny. He's like a pygme. So either you're the size of tinkerbell or... Hang on, are you Tinkerbell!?

[edit]

Aaand we're derailing, again.

I really don't have much to say about the actual topic though. Missed opportunities? Even if all those opportunities was fixed the game would still be shit because the damage/health scaling in the game is awful. I'd rather see the game mechanics fixed than see more options in quests because the quests are so badly written and fucks with the lore so much that I don't give a shit about its roleplaying options in the first place. The most I want out of FO4 is a fun gun-n-gun experience.

Fallout 3 had a few things to say which were meaningful.

I'm not sure what the hell F4's message was.

It's major draw is it's "Fallout which is not as good as Fallout 3."

I thought the major draw was "look, we're just like [insert game they ripped off here]!"
