The Silent City

Hah, I knew I recognised that face from somewhere.

Great movie, though.

I recognised him at first glance, because I hatses him. I hated him in Batman Begins, he was shit in that piece of shit movie the Wind that Shakes the Barley and he *dared* to have movie sex with Scarlett Johansson...not just *implied* movie sex, but *actual* movie sex. The nerve!

In a brilliant movie, though. 'Though he wasn't all that good. And it was a bit weird to see Dutch names spoken regularly in English.

I'm constantly annoyed by his face, though. There's something really, really annoying about that face. Really, really, really, really annoying.

2a) I don't like the switching between guns in the intro (M16) & then towards the grunts (L85). Of course, this could have many reasons, but still...

It could actually add realism, if you look at it in a PA context although I don't think the writer actually intended the use of different weapon types that way. The group could be a NATO task force (battlegroup for the brits) or ad-hoc unit composed of mixed US/UK elements, hence both A2's and L85's and logistically they both fire the same .223 round and use the same mags. So it makes sense if you look at it in that context but I think I'm giving the writer far too much credit for a subtle detail that was more than likely unintended. Also, they're wearing what appear to be current issue US PASGT k-pots, although I've never seen a black one. I'd like to see more, who knows what the writer/director intended. I want to see MORE.

I also thought this was a trailer, and a freaking good one.

Anyways, if this gets worked out to a full-time movie, i'm sure it's gonna be a huge success at any cinema.

Now u'll have to excuse me, I'm gonna get down the HD version and look at the beauty in the movie theatre at work, moahaha :)

1) I always found "hop up" mines a lot more scary. When tripped, they jump up and detonate between 1 meter and 1,75 meter in altitude. Fucking horrific anti-personel shit.
available)

Its called a Bouncing Betty or that was the slang term for them during 'Nam

I particularly liked the part where the fallen soldier reaches for his gun. That was fucked up, and very funny.

I watched about one third (download of the "high qual" version broke down then and didn't want to wait since it went at abysmal speed), looks good.

Ditto, looks good and the High qual dl broke on me also, switched to Opera browser from mozilla and just give it CPR (right click, resume transfer when it f*ks up) and it seems to work ok to download it that way... but its needs CPR alot :|

EDIT:Just watched it, it is AMAZING. The styling of his work, the detail he puts in it, the somewhat comical battlefield humor/realism like waking the guy up with the gun cocking, all very excellent mixture of tastes for a excellent film. Definitely want more and would buy the DVD if it came out, see it in a theater also if it played in the local one I like.

so do FNC's, FN F2000's, etc :)

i just don't like the L85's (and since armor etc is meant to be the same, why not the guns). pretty irrelevant though.

well, yeah, i was using firefox, but didn't want to wait ;)

Everything got said in the first five posts.

Wow, impressive, I'd easily pay the price of a cinema ticket for a feature film length version.

It looked really nice, very impressive.

I want some good PA films to come out.

That was awesome! Really, really well made. I WANT MORE!!!

Its fantastic. Not too sure about the speedy robot thing at the end, and some plot elements were confusing. The full uniform armour didnt really tickle my PA nerve, nor did the broken radio. The guy at the start however was fantastic! (the guy with the gas mask who gets shot).

No doubt there is wave of people petitioning for a full length movie.

Not sure about the guns changing types, I have very little knowledge of fire arms (and didnt pay it much attention).

This is fantastic, the camera work is a little sloppy in places (hard to make out whats happening, everything is moving so fast) but other than that its good. I give it a B+

EDIT: Oh, and while the setting is GWTBW-esq (a destroyed city) the film it self is not. GWTBW is cartoonish, comical and funny. This film has a horror, desperation and dark theme.

I would love to see the HD version, those Quicktime HD videos are awesome on my comp, but downloading a 300 megs file at 40k really isn't something for me. Can't he find a fast mirror somewhere? I have an 8 Gs connection and no way to use it

good? i always get this bullshit message about not having components to play the quicktime movie....

even though i download latest version and all updates
says some shit about not having needed components and they are not available for download..... :(

Go and get the newest version from www.quicktime.com it did the trick for me,I had the exact same problem...

*Edit:
I misread that you have downloaded the latest version as "I've updated and downloaded all the program wants me to"
But another solution is to uninstall it,turn off your firewall and then reinstall and let it update and check if it works.(unless you've managed to get it to work now)

For those wanting the medium version 104MB at a considerably higher speed I managed to find it here:
http://www.hardwired.hu/index.php
Just look for Silent city to the right in that page,I don't know what the average speed for me was,but I did see it reach 1000K...
I do have 100Mbit line though and my peering with Hungary may be better than yours, but I'm fairly sure it'll be faster for you all too than the original(I'll search and see if I manage to find the 300MB version too.)

I <3 how he checks if the cojones are in place.

Second Variety and GwtBW all the way!

I think he did that because he wet himself... At least that was my first impression, but now that you mention it, it's also plausible.

Great movie indeed. However, how can you hate Mr. 28 Days Later?
meh, it sucked compared to the classics of the genre...

as a movie it was ok, i guess, but it just doesn't have that extra edge the classics in the genre have.

Re-reading what I just wrote I realize I misinterprated what the above was about and hence talked about another thing.(Silent city)

I agree with SuAside, even if I'm more negative,28 days later had nothing I was really enthusiased about...(as a zombieflick)
Being infected by "crow/raven spit" for instance and not unexpectadely so...(so,for an AP flick I'd rate it higher than "After the fall of NY",if not by much,as a zombieflick somewhere around "house of the dead",since it wasn't very good in that dep. either IMHO)
