Three Vault Dwellers instead of One

Well, according to Chris Taylor:

What's the deal with Ed? Zed's Dead, baby, Zed's dead. From Pulp Fiction. That's part of the reference. Ed was twofold: to immediately show the player that the outside world was dangerous, and to tell the player that he wasn't the first choice of someone to send out. Ed was sent out before the waterchip malfunction, however, since he's just bones.

@PF: Zed wasn't technically dead, just castrated with a shotgun by the now assraped Marsellus.

@Vault Dweller: Wait, the skeleton is in front of the Vault....

I thought there were three pre defined chars in order to show the gamer that he can go for different types of game play and approaches, or just for the ones who are too lazy to make one the first time they played...

It's an interesting idea for a "prequel" mod; following the few people who got sent out or left the vault earlier for whatever reason. Kind of a nice twist too, since they all failed and you know that ahead of time. Kind of fits the theme of Fallout as well, since even if you win you lose.

there was a pbp roleplay about that on this board about 2 years ago. too bad it got halted, it had potential.

I believe that Ed wasn't sent out to get a waterchip because he didn't have one on him and the story about him being looted is a bit strange too because he was still carrying a 10mm pistol, ammo, a knife and flares. I think he was just an idiot who got out of the vault to explore some area around there and got killed somehow (show me how you do that...) by rats.
as for the dead guy wearing a vault 13 suit in fallout 2, it's possible that it was a guy who escaped from the enclave when they attacked vault 13. The other guy in the military base is a big clue to me, it can hardly be someone who got out of the vault because they would have made him a mutant there. It would make more sense if it was a guy who was meant to go to the vault but didn't make it or something like that. At least that's what i think because they were looking for anyone from the vault because he would become a supermutant like Richard Grey would like them to be (smart and strong).

Hey, didn't the goaul in the Follower's basement come from Vault 13 also.

Also I don't remember getting a pistol off Ed. I thought he just had a knife and some flares.

Yes, Talius did come from V13:

The Vault said:
Talius was a Vault Dweller from Vault 13, sent out by the Overseer to find the Water Chip. Together with Ed, this means there are two confirmed Vault Dwellers from Vault 13 who went out before the PC of Fallout. Having been supplied with a shotgun and some shells, Talius searched unsuccessfully for the Water Chip for some time before hearing of Necropolis's water pump. Presumably hoping that the pump's source was, in fact, a functioning Water Chip, he travelled to the city, not having known of its newly garrisoned detachment of super mutants. With the help of the ghoul leader Set, he was able to kill some of the mutants before being knocked unconscious by Nightkin, and promptly taken to the Mariposa Military Base. He was dipped in the Vats, which led to a rare transformation into a ghoul-like mutant similar to Harold, as opposed to the typical super mutant. He was rescued under ambiguous circumstances by the Followers of the Apocalypse, in his words, "from the full effects of the transformation into a heinous beast". He joined as a full-fledged member shortly afterwards.

Ausir, while we all like your vault, could you stop making basically contentless posts like this?
At least quote the relevant part of the article you're linking to when you answer someone's question.

It's highly doubtful that unused dialogue content can be considered canon.
