Timeslip Fallout 1 and 2 engine tweaks

Thanks timeslip! I'm counting on you next year to make FallOut 3 a better game!

At the same time I'd like you to turn this lead into a pot of gold for me.

Well I figure as long as he's performing miricles...

Actually, modding Fallout 3 will be key, no matter how much we dislike the game, it'll still (probably) be a great engine to mod post-apocalyptic projects on to, crappy combat non-withstanding.

And NMA should be the first place to come to for mods improving key points of Fallout 3's bad design, assuming it'll have fixable points of bad design.

I hope some of our old mods will take a look and that we'll be able to invite some of the Oblivion modders over too, since they know the engine.

at the very least, if there are modding tools, we can make a Fallout: Bloodlines out of it ;)

I can just imagine the horror though... In the aftermath of Fallout 3s release. The Fallout fanbase has survived the great war, they've struggled for their ideals, they've renounced the FPS/realtime design choices, they've bravely defended their viewpoints on the forums, they've spat on the industry reviews...
In this aftermath, the tired, dirty, broken yet oddly determined Fallout fan logs on the Bethsoft Fallout 3 modding forums to check out what he can download to improve the game... And what does he see...?

"[Rel]Playable Khajit race for Fallout 3!!"

The Fallout fan locks himself into the NMA vault, never to be seen again.

I just love seeing hardcore Fallout fans making up excuses to buy and promote FINO3  .

Love the new mousewheel support! It also seems to scroll up and down the map. My question is why did it take 10 years and an elder scrolls fan to add this?

I'd rather see him make more improvements to FO1/2!

I would much rather see him take a shot on Van Buren, maybe work with the engine a little bit and make a editor for it. Mmmmmmm, Van Buren.

That's about as impossible as it gets, really. The code is insanely unstable, the combat is still real-time, the interface is experimental. Hell, the only thing that really works fully in that tech demo is the graphical engine.
Modding Van Buren's engine into a stable, full-blooded engine is undoable without source code. And we don't have any source code.

He is still at it, version 1.8 is out:

* Increase movement and combat speed to up to 10x normal.
* Play fallout in a window or in 16 bit colour mode
* Use the mouse scroll wheel in the inventory, barter, conversation and save/load menus.
* Assign a use to the middle mouse button, and adjust mouse sensitivity beyond fallouts normal range
* Adjust or remove the 13 year time limit
* Fixes the broken pathfinder and sharpshooter perks
* Adds some additional script functions for modders to use

Yep, I have been talking with him and thanks to him both those broken perks are fixed. In addition, with his new scripting functions I have been able to fix several bugs in F2 that could not be fixed due to a broken function they use - set_critter_stat

Groovy... does that mean we should be expecting a new version of your patch out soon? Been looking for an excuse to give FO another go or two...

A new version of my patch will be released in parallel with my expansion pack. The expansion is in beta testing and I am fixing some bugs and cleaning up things here and there. So yeah, soon. 8-)

A

very worthy addition to the games. The replay value just increases! Scrolling indeed  At this rate the FO's and BG's will be played for many years to come...

Well, going back to last month again, I just found this little thing and it's great, but I'm having a real issue with world map travel...the game speed changes work fine and toggle correctly, but running with this thing kills my travel time to be so slow that the game is basically unplayable. I'm trying to play with the Map Delay option but it doesn't seem to have any effect - I'm not using a resolution/travel patched exe btw.
