Todd Howard on Fallout 4

Or you could marry Paris Hilton and use your allowance? :D

On Topic: I do wonder if there is a company out there who would want the rights. I am sure anyone who loves the franchise wouldn't care whether or not Bethesda went screwy on it. It's just like when the Batman movies went to hell. Someone came in and fixed that like it was new. I am sure the same could be done with this. Anyway...from something I read before on here, it sounded as though Interplay had a hard time selling the Fallout name. I don't know why a really good company wouldn't want it. :| ? It's a great and rare setting if nothing else.

"I think it's good for people to miss things," said Todd Howard, executive producer of the game. "Ten years between 'Fallout' is a bit long, but I think there's this nostalgia factor."

Statements like this make me believe that Todd not having finished Fallout1 is the biggest-kept secret at Bethesda.

As far as I know, this isn't exactly true.

Well we can all bet in one thing, the engine used in TES 5 will be the same used in Fallout 4, so expect more of the same crap, only that this time the lies about the new engine will change, maybe instead of lying about the AI they will lie about the shadows.

Back in '04, I overheard herve and Phil Adam discussing selling fallout for 30 million and herve being very adamant against it. I did not hear who the party was so I can not say if it was Beth or another. My own personal view is somebody with deeper pockets, like Activision or Sony, but that is a BIG guess.

I guess there is no chance for Fallout revival now, but it's never too late to reach a new low for bethesda though.

@UncannyGarlic: So...you're saying that other companies were interested? If they were, why do you think Beth ended up with the rights? Simply offered the most money? I'd hate to think that Sony could have ended up with it, in the sense that they probably would have given it to a really good team like Guerilla, or some other talented group under the Sony name. (Sony itself goes a little back and forth) I'm sure there were others too. I don't know a lot about Activision. I know I've played a lot of their stuff, but can't remember any.

Read the topic I linked. The reason Beth got the rights (in a nutshell) is because Interplay needed the money or else they were going to have to declare bankruptcy and have all of their assets liquidized. Bethesda was likely the first company to approach during this time and hence, they got the rights to the franchise.

Thanks for the information. It sounds like it was a bit of a mess. Too bad.

EDIT: I think that was the topic I ran into originally after reading through. I remember the deal about the pen & paper game which I was interested in at the time.

And released it for the PS3 only?

lol...oh sorry. I didn't think of that. I guess they wouldn't make an exception. :)

"The biggest game ever, Sony's Fallout 3, on Microsoft's XBox 360!" :P

It's just a joke...

Either way; after I'd buy it I'd license it to someone that's actually willing to make it right. Maybe even finish Van Buren... wouldn't that be sweet? Enough dreaming though

Yeah, I know it's a joke. I just couldn't resist. :D I mean, it does make sense! :) Probably more possible than winning the lottery! OK, maybe not. :P

And, you never know what's going to happen in Fallout's future, especially if Interplay's MMORPG takes off. You might start to see more hands shook than Beth would like.

Reuters has a piece up on game developers cashing in one sequels, including comments from Fallout 3 executive producer Todd Howard.
Gamers have been waiting 10 years for Bethesda Softworks' "Fallout 3," for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"I think it's good for people to miss things," said Todd Howard, executive producer of the game. "Ten years between 'Fallout' is a bit long, but I think there's this nostalgia factor."

Fans of the post-Apocalyptic game, set in Washington, D.C., won't have to wait another decade for "Fallout 4." Howard said he believes three years is a good time frame between games.
Shacknews interprets this as Reuters saying "Fallout 4 in 2011", which seems a bit out there for me; I'd interpret what Todd Howard is saying as "TES V in 2011, Fallout 4 in 2014", unless Bethesda sets up another studio/dev team.

Thanks darkphilly.
ZM (bethesdas parent company) has several development studios

one of which (accrding to ZM) is working on a MMO, and three others are developing games for PC and console

I could only hope(for the MMORPG part). Isn't just scary that a game could just end up taking over your free time like that lol. I'd still play it, and hope that it actually gets made.

As for marrying Paris Hilton :vatted: :puke:

I'm still shocked that it wasn't Interplay that killed fallout, but Bethesda. Considering that bethesda games have been going downhill since daggerfall, how much do you want to bet that fallout 4 would actually be worse that 3.

Who would want to buy the rights to fallout now?
EA Sports

I want the same weed this guy is smoking. I wasn't waiting for Bethesda's FO3 for 10 years. I was waiting for Black Isle's one for 10 years.
Why did you stop waiting for Black Isle, they are bound to come back .... any time now .... just have to believe ... you'll see ... just a couple of more months .... just you wait ... ... ...
