Troika's PA RPG shots!!

Fucking 3D, once again. Troika could have done a wonderful tile engine with their xp in this field with Fallout,Arcanum,etc... Unfortunately,we will have another 3D game, with poor graphics ( compared to 2D graphics ), among the mass of 3D games. What a pity!

Well, there are a lot more gameplay aspects that a 3 dimensional gameworld can provide as compared to a 2 dimensional one.

This isn't just about pretty graphics, fool.

Fool? Well,thanx!
Anyway, wait and see. I really hope the game will be great. Troika has talented people and has already proven its value by the past.

I'm not just talking about graphs, as you say, much more about immersion. Although everything that is said nowadays since 3D invaded video games,I haven't ever felt immersion better than in 2D worlds. That does not mean there can't be good 3D RPG at all,Morrowind is an excellent one.
But I remember what happened to Lands of Lore. LOL1 was one of the greatest RPG ever, and Westwood decided for LOL2 and 3 to go to "3D". Bad idea indeed.
That's just sad to go to 3D just to go to 3D.

This is primarily due to the style of games being implemented and not their game engines.

Text based games are immersive if they're well designed enough.

I don't understand Mojo, these screens look fine to me. Have you played Fallout lately? It's good looking, but not overwhelming visually.

This post doesn't satisfy my logical circuits.

Its just that the post seems to imply that an engine being 3D would be a bad thing, or that 3D is inferior to 2D, or for that some reason Troika using 3D is a bad thing or it would ruin their games, when none of those are particularly true.

Mojo, you should really play Silent Storm. It might change you mind about the game being in a 3D engine.

Or untrue, for that matter. It depends on the personal taste of an individual, really.

I don’t see what’s so confusing about his post, he’s obviously stating an opinion, albeit probably not in the clearest way.

I can see where he’s coming from though. Right now you can’t fart without splattering less that two games using 3D technology.

That an engine can be good, and that a game can have detail wheter its 2D or 3D is not a matter of opinion.

No, but that's an assumption, he never did say any of that.

It seemed pretty clear to me that he was saying he liked 2D graphics more than 3D because they're more detailed (I don’t think he’s seen how much 3D technology has evolved), that with the experience Troika have from past projects that they could've managed a better tile based engine than an 3D engine for this particular game (he obviously forgot Troika have experience with 3D engines too) and that he thinks 2D is more immersive than 3D (*shrug*, to each his own)... basically opinions, although somewhat misguided, about graphics.

That's what I interpreted from his posts anyway, he doesn’t seem to be very fluent in English...

2D engines do have their own charm, and there isn't a 3D engine yet that can properly convey cartoonish ultra-violence like that in Fallout.

Can't do as much with 2D, though.

The Van Buren engine, probably the unnamed Troika engine for the PA game.

Indeed... that's why we're all still waiting for the next big thing.

God my prayer finally got answered. Well May be ... until the game actually out.

These shots give me some hope about better gaming experiences. :D
