Ubisoft UPlay security threat

This news is spreading like wildfire but I figured I'd post it here too for those of us who play Ubisoft games. I wish I didn't, their DRM is bull, and I never buy em full-price, but man they make/publish good games, haha.

Anyway, Warning: Big Security Risk In Some Ubisoft PC Games

This is being overreported as a rootkit or general security problem but the real problem is a browser plugin it quietly install. It's easy to disable

The fault does appear to specifically lie with a browser plugin Uplay installs rather than Uplay itself, so remove that from your Firefox/Chrome/IE/etc extensions as a priority, but I’m erring on the side of extreme caution and advocating the removal of anything associated with Uplay until this apparent threat is dealt with. Here’s how to locate and disable the errant plugin:

Firefox:
Tools – Add-ons – Plugins – Disable the Uplay and Uplay PC Hub plugins

Chrome:
Visit about:plugins and disable

Opera:
Settings – Preferences – Advanced – Downloads – Search “Uplay”, delete

I actually did not know this and while I currently do not play Ubisoft games its good to know in case I should buy one of their games in the future.

Will ask my contacts at RYG if they know about this.

I wasn't even aware they had a browser plug-in
