Advance Wars fan Matthew Pyke, 20, was stabbed to death in his home in Nottingham, England, over what police suspect may have been an online dispute with a German gamer.

The suspect, 21-year-old David Heiss, was arrested near Frankfurt in Germany. Police at first didn't say whether the arrested man was Heiss, but details later emerged confirming that Heiss was in fact the man arrested in connection with this case (via This is Nottingham). Not long after the killing, Heiss posted a message on the Facebook page of Pyke's girlfriend, Joanna Witton, where he apologized for "having caused so much trouble lately."

wow...He flew all the way to stab this guy?

He stabs a guy to death and the thing you're surprised about is that he's willing to fly "all the way" (Frankfurt-Nottingham is not that far, by the way) to do so?

Man, video games really do blunt our sense of perspective.

I just looked it up and it is 748 kilometers or 465 miles.

That pretty damn close. Catch a morning flight, get a stabbin, go home, watch a moive.

Sounds like "Sorry, I killed your boyfriend but whatever, howya doing, nice day today, eh?"

damn... I wonder what the dispute was all about and how the conversations went. considering there are pretty harsh words thrown about here for example, and no one's been stabbed to death so far.

Oh no. Am I gonna be barred from playing my DS cause the victim was an Advance Wars Fan?

Seriously tho'. This is rather disturbing. Almost makes me wanna watch my tongue over the internet. Maybe those "If you wouldn't say it in real life" ads are correct. Tho' I rarely say something I wouldn't say in real life.

I don't think it has anything to do with video games. Simply, "people" sometimes kill people in anger. Flying somewhere to do it is what makes it different from most of murder reports in news.

yeah, it sounds like there could be more behind this than just video games. they just happened to run a website for a video game together.

Disgusting, in my opinion. It's surprising he actually went through with it. The unfortunate thing is that it wasn't one of those gey nubs on youtube or whatever.

I hope they're basing this on more than a forum dispute and a post on facebook. As it is, it seems like pretty shallow waters to me.

Well, we all sometimes want to stab someone, when interacting with people on the internet... guess the guy was really set on going through with it, though?

Or there was something else to it. Dispute over a video game doesn't really seem like an adequate motivation for murder, especially one that, obviously, was executed in cold blood, after he had time to cool off. Not like people need much (or any that makes sense, for that matter), either.

I never wanted to stab anyone, when interacting with people on the internet.

Alright, not 'we all', but 'many of us', then.

I definitely do want to cave peoples skulls in from time to time.

being a moderator on a forum myself and sometimes dealing with real jerkoffs, I've from time to time considered how it would be if I met these people in real life. every time I've come to the conclusion that, as we do share the same interest being on the same forum and all, we'd probably get along really well and have a good time.

Stabbing... Caving peoples skulls in? That's... so brutal.
I prefer gas chambers and machine guns.

Meh, maybe just poison someones food or drink, I'd rather them just keel over and be far away when it happens.

Anyhow, what the hell did these guys say to each other, I mean, if it was something to make one of them fly to the other and stab him to death it must've been something pretty horrible?
