Not sure about the U.K, but the Germans have some very strict laws regarding violence and other potentially offensive material in video games.

That's strange. GTA 3 and Vice City preyed on all sterotypes including Italian mafia, Asian Yakuza, old people, the homeless, fat people, homosexuals, etc. but they left the kids alone. But just think of the added press heat (aside from scenes of the main character in GTA 3 running a flamethrower through a horde of cops) if killing kids was included.

As far as I know, Fallout 1 didn't have a German version, Fallout 2 did. Not sure, because we always release British versions of games here in Holland (and German versions of software. God knows why, nobody knows German here).

In general, the UK isn't any more or less liberal than the states, with regard to what can and can't be in games or films, it's central european countries with much stricter guidelines on it, and i think there's your answer to the no-kids question.

Yes and we scandinavians have to suffer for it..of course now that we are becoming full-fledged EU-bitches we'll be reduced to the same fascist laws as the rest of europe(remember who calls the shot in EU...).
Wee I can just imagine it before my eyes: in a couple of years you'll be required to run Palladium by law in the entire EU and there will be loads of shit laws controlling the internet, computer games etc etc.

I've heard, that there are a lot more bugs in the US version, that in the UK. And there is no kids in the UK version and other things are censored. But that's only what I've heard.

Actually it`s the European Comission that is leading the fight against game banning in Greece, and the EU never made a law that restricted the freedom to release games and what they show.

Still who knows, there are so many weird regulations that come from the EU that we have to remain vigilant...

Supposedly the games can't have any blood. For example, in C&C when you run over soldiers, they leave grey little grease stains. Sorta ridiculous if you ask me.

Censoring violent games is ridiculous, can't they just enforce age restrictions and educate the parents on the rating system more? We're not talking about public television here.

Oh yes there was, translated version of FO1, that's for sure. But I don't remember about the kids, but the censoring was in violence level - it couldn't be set to max blood, so even if you got critical with minigun, they'd just die normally ( what a rip off ).
But here is what they do : they used to start game in english fallout version, then save it with max blood setting, then load that save game in german fallout and it worked.

But I'm not german, I prefer always playing in original languages. Relating to fallout, Russians made an awful translation and they even manages to mess it up so that it has new bugs ( you can never teach the guy in Arroyo how to grow plants better, some dialogue lines were just removed and diplomatic approach was not always possible).
But don't forget that Vertibird Mod is Russian production and this is really good.
