"Unknown" location

Alright i was going to New Reno and came across some unknown location north of broken hills. It was a cave. I got in and it was empty until suddenly some bombs went off and i died! I tried many times to get past it but i can't. How can i get past it and what is there?
Also another question. I got a quest from some guy at Vault city who gave me a briefcase to deliver to Joshua Bishop. I found the Bishops casino but i can't find Joshua. Help!
 
Throwing a wild guess out here, but could it be the Raider location you have found? It is north of Broken Hills, and have a densely trapped cave entrance. I don't know why you shouldn't be able to avoid the area tho.

And the briefcase goes to the boss of the Bishops family, he is at the top floor, past some guards. Let them know who you are and what you're there for.
 
Did you made screenshot ? I am sure most of us will recognize it in a few seconds, if we see it.

If not, then it's time for a new entry in the wiki.
 
What you've found there is the raider's cave, no doubt. Often, sneaking through (or walking rather than running, at the very least) is enough to spot the traps and sinkholes before setting them off, but if your perception or Traps skill isn't high enough you're likely to set off a few (or most) anyway.

Without giving too much away, I'll say you might want to just turn around and come back later anyway. There are a few important people out in the wasteland who have a stake in this place and if you forge in there now before having some idea of what's up you'll cheat yourself out of a potentially significant amount of quest XP and possibly piss off a major player.

About Bishop, as said, he hangs out on the top floor.

Edit - I saw the stairs in the casino but it won't let me up and i can't talk to the guards

Bishops casino has two stairways up, the first one, on the casino floor, should be free to use. The second one on the floor above is guarded, and you need to talk to the guards to be allowed up.
If guards are not responding, then maybe you are trying to talk to the wrong ones? The "bouncers" won't help you :D
