Best news in years!

Uwe Boll, the German director the critics love to hate, will return to low-budget filmmaking now that his latest and biggest production, the $70 million fantasy epic "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," bombed at the boxoffice.

The adaptation of the hit video game, which stars Jason Statham, Ron Perlman and Burt Reynolds, delivered just $3 million over the weekend, marking the third flop in a row for Boll, whose "BloodRayne" and "Alone in the Dark" also failed to deliver theatrically.

Reached at his home in Mainz, Boll said the results from "King" mean he will be unable to continue with big-budget productions.

That means no more game licensing for terrible big budget filmmaking (once the current post-productions are finished; Tunnel rats and Far Cry).

How the hell did he ever get investors after the first flop, honestly?
He has got to be one of the worst directors in history who has ever had any recognition.

The only thing dumber than him, I suppose, are the people actually willing to fund him. Talk about tunnel vision, those investors should quit their job.

He got huge investments because of some crazy German law that allowed big businesses to use movies as a tax write off. I think the law changed very recently.

Correct on both counts. He was riding on that law and could produce major flops without significant losses, which is what he was doing. But with the law gone, his crutch is gone and his films had to be profitable of themselves.

No chance there.

wooooo hooooooooooo !
so instead of making films based on video games ,he makes the same films but quite crappier !!!
no more wooooo hoooooooo's then i guess ! :(

He won't be able to buy rights anymore! Awesome!

Ahahah!

I don't think Postal came out yet. I can't stand a serious Boll movie; I'm definitely not going to try his comedies.

Just imagine, for a second, the man's sense of humor.

This had to happen - the bastard had it comming for years and I'm glad he didn't have the time to make a Fallout film.

The only thing that would be better is if he actually fucking died. I hate that piece of shit. Why did Jason Statham even play in that fucking movie? I considered him to be one of the up and coming action heroes, but now I doubt his ability to even use his fucking brain to pick bad script from good script. Haven't seen WAR yet,so I guess that movie will be the deciding point for me. If it sucks, I won't watch a movie with him as the star ever again.

Shhh don't give him any ideas.

That's one thing I've been wondering myself. I understand how he gets the funding but how in the world does he convince all these good actors to take part in his movies?? Statham has been blowing like a tornado lately but Michael Madsen, Ben Kingsley, Ray Liotta??

Well he didn't actually need my help to bump into such an idea - I read an interview with him (2 years ago or so) when he was quite seriously taking Fallout into consideration. Fortunately he found Dungeon Siiege's intricate plot more appealing.

Hmmm, how can I be philosophical about this? and also talk in a way that every fallout fan can understand.... I know.

KARMA IS A BITCH!

I suddenly feel like singing "Ding dong the witch is dead..."

It took sometime before reality and sense finally caught up with this guy but they did in major style.

But what kind of movies is he going to make now?
I hope not more of those awful budget Sci-Fi movies.

The thing I find scary right now is that low budget means that absolutely everything about his films will suck now. So far he could afford decent (or even good) actors and special effects and the only thing one could really blaim him for is his complete lack of talent making him barely fit for a career of a dung collector rather than a filmmaker. Now he's going to have just enough cash to buy a newspaper and yet he still wants to make films. That means worse than abyssmal special effects, actors recruited straight from the streets and shitty scripts. I know that comparing him to Ed Wood is a blasphemy but it is dangerously familiar and, personally, the last thing I would want for dear old Uwe is him reaching cult status by making films so bad that they're actually good.
