V:TM - Bloodlines

Yeah, the game becames too much combat-focused starting with the dread sewer level.

Honestly I kind of liked that aspect of the game. Up until that point you probably felt like some super badass, able to blow humans apart with blood magic, or cause mass hallucinations and make people vomit up all their innerds, or be able to 1-2 punch a Sabbat member to death easy peasy. No matter what build you went, you were probably pretty darn unstoppable at this point.

Then you get to the sewer. And you run into the horrifying abominations of Hell that lurk below. Not only can these creatures kick your ass, they probably will. Fire arms do nothing, your magic does nothing, you better hope you can run fast or have some high melee/brawl points, or you're gonna have a bad time. For the first time in a while I felt genuinely outmatched and rather scared, if only because those fucking giant monsters are terrifying. I'd done nothing but upgrade Fire arms since I was playing as a Toreador. I wish I'd been recording when I saw that my guns only did 1 damage or 0 damage to these monsters, even with my best gun. I'm sure I made a priceless face of shock.

It's probably one of the few times in the game spells like the one Nosferatu get that makes you invisible really come in handy. You may not be able to fight these monsters, but you can sneak past them. I remember specifically having to use Auspex to run past them. (pretty sure that's the speed magic)

Yeah I must admit that I had fun murdering everything with my Gangrel with a maxed out Prothean form, problem was that I first time I played the game was with a speech oriented ventrue, and then I sadly had to resort to cheating

But after the sewer level there aren´t many quest that make the social skils worthwhile, the game changes to combat focused. And what kind of gun were you using to make so little damage?

Also, the speed power is called celerity.

I was using the gun you get basically just before you head down into the sewer area. The shotgun you get from the Evil Dead Ash tribute guy. It didn't do diddly squat, no guns do. That's the point as far as I can tell.

And I dunno, I seem to remember quite a few persuasion checks in Chinatown, particularly with that one monster hunter girl and those 2 old men who're trying to locate some lost treasure of their's. You get quite a bit of money from both of those quests if you have high speech.

The second revolver is good against the little flesh monsters (and the big ones) but not in groups. And about the shotgun, are you using the pump one? That one is very ineffective in that part of the game. You can buy the semi-automatic from mercurio back in santa monica.
