Not Fallout or other post-apocolyptic news, but to do with our friends at Troika. Their upcoming gothic RPG, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines has a confirmed release date, November 16th, as per this press release.
Santa Monica, CA – November 9, 2004 – The bloodletting begins on November 16, 2004 with the shipping of Activision, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Vampire®: The Masquerade – Bloodlines™ for the PC.

An all-new RPG adventure, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is filled with rich character development, an intriguing storyline set in White Wolf’s World of Darkness®, and mind-blowing graphics powered by Source™ - Valve’s next generation engine technology. It will take a vicious array of vampire disciplines and a healthy penchant for blood, for players to survive the dark and gritty undying world of modern day L.A. Selecting from one of seven clans, gamers will interact with other characters, decide with whom to ally themselves, and watch as darkness takes over their soul while a mysterious plot unfolds.

Bloodline's release date is the same day as Half Life 2, so let us hope it can hold it's own in the stores.

To say it in a professional way: That website is teh suck.

Commercial Flash-crap at its worst. Mystery meat navigation with Flash "scrolling". Not to mention all the other craptacular "features" of Flash.

And what kind of age verification is THAT? How is a birthday question better than a simple disclaimer with an enter/exit button? Grrreat.

That's good. Now they'll get more time on their hands to develop that RPG we really want.

hahaha.
no, i was thinking of that totaly leeet follut mmOrrpg!!!oneone!1!!!1

Well, it accepts that I was born on the 35th day of the 36th month in the year 1900.

Why don't you bring it up with the people responsible Ashmo, Ignited Minds?

Because I can't be arsed to wade through the flashing shockwaves?

Damn thing, wouldn't accept that I was born in 1783.

In other news, I hate flash websites.

I somehow think it won't accept birthdates of actual vampires.

...

When was count Dracula killed for the first time again?

Yea, but they managed to get a photo of Herve from his days of cross dressing ;)

In the book, you never find out. He relates the story of the great battles of his fictitious country's past like he was there, though, so he was old, old, old. Hell, Stoker didn't even include a year so that you could tell for sure when the book was taking place. He made it contemporary so his 'final death' (though debatable) takes place around 1900, but he also tried to make it timeless, and so left it very vague. Good book, many bad movies based on it. Go figure.

I love the looks of this game, though. Then again, I dug Redemption. Combat got old as hell in that game, though. Had to cheat and turn off the AI completely to make it bearable so I could finish the story. Sad, that. Good game overall, though. Pre-ordering this tomorrow. Troika needs the support to make their PA game good!

Wallachia wasnt a fictitious country. Dracula was based after all on Vlad the Impaler, the prince of Wallachia.

Yea, he discovered that fear was a particualy good weapon. Didnt good ole Vlad get excumuncated from the church at the time because he kept impaling people? Or was it because he was friends with a Catholic King (I cant remeber if he married his daughter too?)

Wallachia was real, you're right. Wallachians, Saxons and Turks are all referenced in Dracula's diatribe. Stoker made up Transylvania, though, which is where Dracula hails from. Vlad Tepes is a whole other bag of worms, but whoa...that guy was a real piece of work too.

I don't mean to come off as a know-it-all, though, so I'll reference the chapter I'm talking about. It's about halfway down, but searching for Wallachia will take you right to it. I just read this book a few months ago, so it's still fresh in my mind. It's also why I played VTM: Redemption again (and finally finished it this time, with that AI cheat), and am so pumped for this game. Hot hot hot. Troika has filled me with enthusiasm for a game that I haven't had since Fallout 1.

Another bit of text that I discovered during my insatiable thirst for good vampire fiction while reading Dracula was this tasty little gem. Good bedtime reading to be sure ;)

URA !!! Been waiting a long time for this game well from the last game actualy hope woices will be as good as in the last. :D :D :D :D :D

Transylvania is a region that lies now between Germany and ... the Czech Republic I think. The German name of it is Siebenbürgen.

Transylvania is NOT fictional.

Yeah, I meant good ol' Vlad. When did he officially die again?

Don't remember. But I do recall that he was seen as a Vampire because Eastern Orthodox superstition claims that those who leave the Orthodox church become vampires.

Also, VTM: Redemption SUCKS. Nevermind that I'm playing it right now to get a good feel for the system and canon. But it sucks majorly.

I thought Transiylvania is a region in country we now know as Romania.
As for game. Not much to say. I doubt it's any good. Only thing that might attract me is uncommon setting for RPG.
Action RPG actually. That's what I hate most. Watched some gameplay footage and interviews with Leon on gamespot yesterday and they only confirmed my worst expectations. Combat sucks even worst than Morrowind's and I assume it will take 80% of gameplay time in this game. Didn't see much dialogue choices either. Game'll be linear as ruler (Leon's interviews quite confirms it ).
Oh well. I hope Troika sells it well though. To earn some money to make some good PA game to make us pleased. :D

Actually Trasylvania is a part of Romania. Yeah, it's not fictional, surprisingly for some people who seem to know so much about "vampire history".

Sonufa...well, that serves me right for not even bothering to look it up in Britannica. Haha. I will be damned. This is why I like discussion!

Yo man, how can you be dissin Christof like that :( Crusader turned vampire, the guy had me from the first 'thee'. I hope you mean the game sucks, and not the story. Because Christof is most definitely the man. You can't watch the intro and not believe that.

Bingo on the Romania part. Look it up in the encyclopedia, makes even more interesting reading than Vlad Tepes. Countries always do. I didn't watch the Gamespot vid, but do you know offhand how it compares to the 30 minute walkthrough that was released this summer sometime? That included a fair bit of dialog choice, and we even got to see how Malkavian dialog differs from normal talk (good ol Troika with that low-intelligence heritage, don't ever let that die, please). And how a character with a good bit of charisma can talk his way out of combat. Which is supposedly what you can do often - experience is awarded for quests, not combat. You could avoid all the combat and still get all the experience. That's what sells me.

But then, I'm going to be a gunslinging Ventrue. All aboard the shotgun train, toot toot!
