Van Buren resources exported

Fallout Encyclopaedia user senpay has created a script that allows exporting of Van Buren G3D files into 3D Studio Max. Our own Continuum is currently working overtime to see what's usable with or without some tweaking to import straight into Fallout 2. These could potentially be used in Fallout 3 modding as well. How many assets can be taken from Van Buren is unclear, but Dude101 puts it at "potentially 500 + with some work". Some samples:

Actually, Black, I think it's lovely whenever stuff like this happens. This is people's work we're looking at, and I imagine they're happy to see it at least come to some use.

Not to mention how helpful it is to our modders.

I'm wondering how many unique models (say, scenery for locations other than the tutorial area) are there in the files.

Props (Scenery) 414 G3Ds
Tiles 2928 G3Ds
Items 131 G3Ds
Critters 457 G3Ds

I can't get the critters to work, but you can somehow: there is a Max DL for a deathclaw on the RU forum. I don't know how to customise these scripts for different assets. The scripts I edited for conti load most scenery and tiles, but some don't work and need tweaking.

Fantastic work

I often wonder about Van Buren's files (a unhealthy bit actually, it really bother's me they were just wasted and never to see the light of day again) and what it would have looked like and if they are gathering dust in a Bethesda store room or destroyed forever and what a waste this would be. (Imagine for a moment if Bethesda's F3 was scraped and someone 10 years later bought it but destroyed it and they were about 80% complete at the time of scraping... I think they would be a little bothered by this, but you can't tell them this)

I love to see when more of these little bread crumbs come to life. It's a prime example of the old way games were made, when they were art and not completely corporate run so as to limit their freedom (close though). I loved the RPG's from back then. I can see some of this influence being for mods, but not allot directly being used.

Again, fantastic work. I know it will be hard to pull out all the old files but in the end it this is something that is truly rewarding. A sort of digital archeological dig if you will :)

they sure are sweet and i am happy to see stuff like this, but modding them in a game like beths fallout 3? no thanks.

I wouldn't mind seeing some of van buren stuff in a game like Fallout: New Vegas...but using these stuff for mods...i would rather leave it the way it is.

It's like showing you future photos of your miscarriage'd son!!

That's funny. I had no idea about this until I read it on NMA. Than I visited my own forum to check it out at last . Good work, guys !

And some hot stuff:
Senpay: Start the new game and type"newgame zz_TestMapsScottE_Test2.map" in the console. You'll see the unfinished map that has... water! Just check it out yourself.

About some goddamn time some new stuff for Fallout 2 comes up. I got pretty tired of the same old scenery stuff and would welcome something new.

Good effort, great result folks.

It's so... beautiful.

So... you modding cats going to use these, perhaps for a true Fallout 3? :D

it would be nice if someone finished van buren. wouldn't these models look out of place in a fallout 2 mod?

Isn't most of this stuff in Fallout 2's BGE already anyway? No clue how the rest of the stuff differs, but what I saw until now looks to me like a very close thing to VB.
