van buren

Uhm... Ausir, didn't you once say that there might be coming more... soon?

Or was that just a joke?

It wasn't a joke. A major PnP RPG publisher (not a joke like Glutton Creeper) was interested in PnP rights to Fallout, as well as releasing Van Buren as an official PnP campaign. But Bethesda eventually said "no". Because they "really didn’t want to get into doing a PnP game, or a novel, or anything that was too close to the game itself."

Well...fuck them.

I would really like a Chaosium Fallout or a D20 Fallout by Wizards of the Coast...

Let alone a Van Buren campaign...

I wouldn't really like a d20 Fallout. The one in question would likely have been released in two versions - d20 and SPECIAL.

Also, there was the "VB Revival Project" announced forever ago on NMA by a guy named Mutt or somesuch, but that's dead in the water and he's MIA as far as I can tell. Too bad, since I was looking forward to that and it seemed within the realm of the possible what with all the design docs and such.

Yet another reason Beth sucks hard, then swallows.

I agree, Bethesda are such a bunch of assholes.
First they make a game that all previous Fallout fans dislike/hate, then they deny the previous Fallout fans for having any compensation for this by refusing to do anything close to the old Fallouts.

Heh, funny. That "survival project" survived from Friday, 2 March 2007 to Monday, 26 March 2007. Not a very long survival... :> (Beside this, the few screenshots are looking like everything, but not like a high security jail that Tibbet from the design docs is.)

I would love to see Van Buren released as a book, but then again... wouldn't be the same. A PNP campaign... well.. I am not really into PNP nowdays, so... wouldn't be anything for me too.

What I want is the game from the 'ol devs 'n Black Isle who started it. And yeah, we all know it will never happen. :)

Funny, as they totally were on board for a book based on the TES universe.

I would love to see a whole Fallout Anthology type book. Perhaps anthology isn't the right word, something like The Marvel Vault book, a "Museum-in-a-Book with Rare Collectibles from the World of Marvel." Only replace Marvel with Fallout. :) A collection of development art, processes, things left out, original ideas. A sort of developers tell all type thing. Fallout, from Wasteland to Fallout 3 and beyond. Now I'd buy something like that.

There is a new Russian revival project. The maker is a good guy, who plans to release it in modules. I think we will actually see a version of Tibits prison, but as for a finished project... hmm I know first hand how hard that is:

I am keeping a close eye on this one, for my blog on the modding wiki.

Meh, I don't know... Tibbets Prison with default vault walls 'n scenery just doesn't look right to me. Don't know how it was planned in original but I just can't see it with vault 13 tile set just like it was done in that other "VB Revival Project" and so on.

Well the idea was that some of the Vault technology was first tested in the Tibet's Prison, such as the recycling systems and so on.
So the art style might not be out of place.

But I do not think the underground caverns is fitting as part of the setting.

Also I think there was also some mentioning of light manufacturing plants, and of course CODE.

I would rather see a Gurps edition of fallout or just a pnp adaptation of special, I mean, could it really be THAT hard?
