Vault 13 and Current Lvl Where You Got Goris

First time out of the vault
How do I get to Vault 13 in Fallout 2? I did few NCR quests and Vault 15 too of course since Khans hate me for being goody-two shoes. What was your current early lvl where you've got Goris? Because the only companions I have are Sulik, Vic, and Cassidy. Feel like dumping Vic to get Marcus since he lvled a bit. -_-

Too many good companions I have on me. What shall I do? :(

There are three ways to locate Vault 13.

The easiest one:

On level 3 of Vault 15, which you say you already visited, there is a computer (left) which can tell you where to find Vault 13. You do need to pass a Science check.

The other two:

Once in NCR, you should talk to Doctor Jubilee and ask him about Vault 13. He will mention a guy named Saltbeef. You can find Saltbeef over at Westin's ranch. He will want a Beer, but he will also tell you about Vault 13 and how the location to that Vault is on the back of a painting. Doctor Jubilee has the painting, but it'll cost you 10,000 bucks. Buy it and then steal your money back from him.

IN NCR, at Westin's ranch, you can get a quest to guard brahmin. When you do so, you will see some talking Deathclaws. Follow the Deathclaws and you will find Vault 13. I think you need to pass another check for this one, though, and I'm not sure, but I think it's probably Outdoorsman.

As for your question pertaining Goris: I only recruited him once or twice during all of my playthroughs. Because he sucks. He has this lengthy and boring animation during which he unrobes himself right before battle and once you see it a couple of times, it really becomes rather annoying. Since you only get to recruit him later in the game, he's rather weak when you meet him the first time and he won't get much better because there isn't much time left before you reach the end. He also takes off at a certain point in the game and then you have to go get him back. My advice would be to recruit him for a quest or two, just to see what he's got to offer, and then to replace him back with whoever it was you ditched.

As for Marcus: meh. Also not one of my favourite followers. He's slow as fuck, so get used to starting a fight by accident and having to wait four or five turns before Marcus finally decides to come back into view. Also: don't give him a minigun, because he will decimate your party sooner or later if you do. Give him a plasma or a laser rifle. Or just don't recruit him at all, because I would rate Vic higher than Marcus. You get Vic early on in the game, I usually get him soon after I get Sulik, so he has a chance to grow and level up. In the late game Vic is awesome with a Gauss rifle. And so is Cassidy, for that matter. Sulik will do wonders with a Super Sledge or a Super Power Fist. These are my three favourite npc's, but for pure comedy I actually almost always recruit Myron as well. I just love that guy. You can change his combat settings if you have a hard time keeping him alive.

Hope that helped.

In all my playthroughs, I have never given Vic much of a chance. Fat bastard. Maybe I should, I have often been curious if he is any good levelled up. I'll usually take him back home to Klamath, and neatly place him in front of his little desk, sometimes even lock the door behind me, to give him some privacy. If I feel generous, I'll even let him keep his pistol.

To OP, munch a bunch of mentats, for temporary possibility to recruit more buddies than your limit allows, if you really don't want to leave any favorite follower behind.

I only recruited him once or twice during all of my playthroughs. Because he sucks.
Some of my friends say Goris is really good and if you lvl him up more some of his melee hits can crit. Plus, he can make a good pack rat.

Or just don't recruit him at all, because I would rate Vic higher than Marcus.
I do have Vic when I was recording. I only repicked him up when I was lvl 5 or 6 because I had to head to New Reno to complete the Richard Wright quest and kill Mason for his shades (had 5 charisma without shades). Skipped few Salvatores quests which I didn't mean to. I tried to give Marcus a Mega Power Fist, but he can't use it for some odd reason. Of course, even though Marcus goes his own distance, he charges in anyway and gets aggroed easily.

What level were you when you got Vic? :eyebrow:

The point is that for Goris to level up - you have to level up, but by the time you encounter Goris you have (most likely) levelled up so much, that you probably only have a few more levels to expect, making the effort a bit wasted. In comparison, Vic or Sulic who have been with you from the start, have levelled up alongside you this whole time.
(your followers only level up when they are in your company.)

Another slight downside with Marcus is that he litterally doesn't let you boss him around. You can customize the combat tactics of your followers, and each have their limits and preferences. Marcus likes to charge head on, and won't be told otherwise.
What weapons your companions can use is limited to what animations they have. You can ask them their preferences, and try and guess around a bit. I would recommend, as alec said, a laser or plasma rifle for Marcus, because he 1. won't kill you every time he tries to help you (miniguns) and 2. won't charge face-first in for a melee fight that easily gets him killed, cus he's a fight-to-the-death type of feller.
