"If you can't raise your resolution, it's because you're using a a PLUG AND PLAY monitor driver. Voodoo drivers will then take a safety measure, and not allow higher resolutions at the chance of ruining your monitor. However if it knows precisely what monitor you have, and what it's capable of, then your Voodoo can do it."

Can anyone verify this?

Well the problem with a plug and play driver is that it doesn't have specific refresh ratings for different resolutions. Your Voodoo won't risk running higher resolutions at unknown refresh rates because doing so could ruin your monitor. Try finding or using the real drivers for your monitor.

I'm surprised that your plug 'n pray drivers don't have the refresh rates however...

I remember running my monitor at 1024x768x16bit when it only supported 800x600 max... wacky drivers...

Well if your monitor is that old it probably can't achieve very high frame rates anyway. Seriously Doyle, get some better hardware. Prices are at an all-time low now. Stick with the brand names.

RE: That's a bit of a problem...

i have a proview 770 and it didn't come with drivers, however, windows should auto detect you monitor if it is plug and play (it did with mine) or if not try looking on the windows cd for the drivers (i know they are on w98 se disk) try it 4 yours.
if it works then u cxan see relevent info about it in the display settings. Is your problem resolution related?

if both your card and monitor allow higher resolutions then u could try a new video driver or if the problem is something monitor related like the monitor turns off or goes odd(not sure if applys but with my video card it does ATI RAGE 128) then try going to display > settings > advanced and changing the monitor refresh rate (it may be at optimal if so change to 'defult' if allows, I dont recommed changing it to anything other than this unless u know that both monitor and card support that refresh rate, u can change this back if needed either in safe mode(if cant see anything on the monitor after this change or if can still see things but no change u can change it back)

Mine was detected as plug-and-play but had the wrong, or rather optimal, specifications, so I used the drivers on my CD instead.
