and there you go again...

2 seconds of googling revealed a website with a 3 page list of Mac virustypes and a 2000 survey identifies 40 types as well.

so "they dont have them yet"? yeah, right...

the reason why they arent widespread is because Macs are a less tempting targets. why go for reasonably protected Macs if you can have a thousandfold more victims that'll click any link sent to them.

you're welcome to say they're more secure, but saying "they don't have them yet" is just identifying yourself as a clueless Mac fanboy with an Apple lodged firmly up your ass.

Did I say Mac, or OS X? Gee, there is only one virus (or worm as symatec mentions) for Mac OS X (Tiger, it's a bit like when Microsoft has Win2000, XP, Vista).

Remember, it's 2006.

just the same: OSX/Leap-A aka OSX/Oompa-A, OSX.Macarena, Opener, Bloodhound, OSX/Exploit-ZipShell aka Exploit.OSX.Safari.a,... in 30 seconds of googling.

as well as a load of other 'proof of concept' viruses.

Yep, and more and more Mac 'virii' and exploits are being discovered as well.
It's still a lot more secure and safer than Windows, though, if only because of the Unix-based OS.

Damn. I must keep up with this stuff more. My bad. When you don't need to keep yourself 100% alert all the time you tend loosen (loose googling doesn't help either).

Oh well, 40 vs 60 000 is still a fair fight.

I'm not saying Mac OS is the kingdom of heaven, but it's still far more secure than Windows, as Sander points out due to it being a Unix-based.
