The Wasteland 2 fundraising drive has now passed $2.1 million, combining Kickstarter ($2,059,408) and Paypal ($40,610). With this amount raised, Chris Avellone will join as a designer, and inXile will license tools from Obsidian to improve the game.

    More updates coming today.

Agreed I'm still surprised at the outpouring of support from the whole community especially from the younger generation that has probably never even experienced the joy of DOS games

a very huge part of the gamers is between their 20s and 30s.

I think even if not everyone played wasteland I have the feeling that the gamers are really craving after quality RPGs if you consider what we actually got in the last years, namely games with stories written for toddlers. So I am not surprised that a game with a somewhat popular name like Wasteland which was the reason for games like Fallout got such strong funding. We all me included hope for some really good quality gameplay and writing that is not tainted by "making it for the masses! So everyone should enjoy it!" or the "it has to be a shooter to sell!" syndrome. Seriously. When ever you come up with the term "RPG" usually the investors cringe if it does not contain "ACTION" in there somewhere. And now here is a chance with kickstarter to see many projects done exactly how the creators want them to look like without the need to get the attention from some big investor.

I think the fact Fallout 1 and 2 are closely tied to the spirit of Wasteland is what helps. I was 11 when Fallout 1 came out, but in my teens i randomly kinda just bought Fallout 2 and fell in love with turn based CRPGs.

I hope it will be news about the design of the games but after the social feature B.F has been very cautious.
But i guess it will be some artworks, the vision design docs are forgotten untill the end of the kickstart.

The fundraising for this game seriously started to pick up pace this week (from about 20k/d average last week to more than double that now). Currently, 2.5 mil therefore seems to be an actual possibility. Mod tools would be awesome, but honestly I'm more interested in a more comprehensive game from the get-go.

    edit:
Actually, the average gamer is 37 years old. This could be part of the explanation, as the people who played Fallout and possibly Wasteland now have jobs, cash to spend and a craving.

In addition, games like Minecraft have shown a lot of the younger gamers that you can have fun without AAAwesome graphics, and the indie scene has been quite successful with titles that does not follow the "AAA recipe". Of course, the hype from all the senior gamers and news outlets (which does contain a fair amount of said seniors) is rather influential as well. The younger gamers are easily influenced by the hype machine

Great news :) I even advertised the Kickstarter on FB Fallout profile run by Bethesda. Got mixed answers, but it surely reach quite a lot of people

Ugh. Let's not mention Minecraft, a hugely overrated turd, in a thread celebrating the success of the Wasteland 2 kickstarter, please.

But yes, I think 2.5mil is well within sight, especially given the historical trend of Kickstarter projects picking up steam near the end of their drives.

I feel you, it has been a disastrous decade fore us all. The rpg games dummed down, smart adventure game gone to the hills and consoles crazes. I remember a time when grass killed you if you looked at it funny, and you had to make notes on a hand drawn map. Played and liked several troika games only they to get the shutters. already poped a white vine in celebration when it reached 900k. gonna buy a champagne on the last day.

Quite true. Although I must say, that a good RPG for me must have some sort of action. Like in Wasteland, fighting 7 Scorpitrons while dragging away a critically injured teammate, soaked in his own blood, that's pretty heavy.
