Wasteland Robots

Diarmada

First time out of the vault
I thought I would post some of my favorite apocalyptic themed robot images...these robots seem rather lonely, as inheritors of a world that they once knew as alive, but now silent and dead...

Most of these are by the seminal sci-fi artist Mel Hunter, one is a take on Hunter by Gaylord Welker (IMO) and the last is by the great CG filmmaker Ed 'Emsh' Emshwiller...

These are so great! I love the one's showing the robot attempting to mimic human behavior out of either curiosity or boredom. Note the "baseball" picture and the "painting" which has a beautiful landscape represented where only desolation should be. I also see that the area in the painting where a city is has a corresponding crater in the landscape subtly showing that civilization ended with a war that had cataclysmic bombs.

Sincerely,

That one is one of my favorites too...I recently got most of these off of ebay (these are not the scans of the ones I won, but they are same issues), they went for around $12 a lot (4-8 in each lot)...so they are easily collectable...

Last one = hells yeah

That one is truly the most fallouty of them all...emsh won a ton of Hugo awards for best artist, but ironically not for this one...

What the hell?!

That's disturbing, but I like the others very much. The pictures are kinda sad, but amusing.

Man, these are great. They certainly are depressing images, especially the last one....

What can I say... Yesterday my latest sketch book was analyzed to be "penis-centric" and "fixated" in a critique.

I counted the penises I had drawn and there was only something like twenty...

Those suits are awesome.. thank you for reminding me

I like the "All-new! War toy" line too :)

Great stuff Diarmada.
Love this one:

Yeah that one is great, the title is as awesome as it gets:

"Slaves to the Metal Horde"

I wonder how long will it take for Angrim to make the phallic connection with said image? Afterall, 20 is almost a Freudian apocalypse :)

Bwahahahaha! Those robots remind me of penises! Ahahahaha!

Erm...

Actually didn't see it that way before you said it, Diarmada.

My favourite's the one with oil can. Kinda ironic.

Yeah, that one is pretty fallouty indeed, kinda reminds me of that encounter with the guy in power armor, the one that references the wizard of oz...

i like the one with the robot collapsed just in front of the oil can. Actually, considering the era they came from most of those robots look really cool...

I can't belive how people prefer those modern 'look I'm dark and have many hoses all over me alá Matrix-style' robots over these ones.
They simply rock!

However, it does seem a little 'stupid' for a robot to hang a person; they should be more effective and, like, laserbeam them to death or something

Heh, I would tend to agree with you that hanging someone from a tree when you obviously have superior strength and/or fire power is a wee bit strange, but in reference to the story the art-work was supporting, hanging sends a message to would be heros...

Nice pic's the one of the looks like c3po (I don't like star wars my dad dose though) as for hanging him i thing he could have done it him self or it was done for artistic licence or story purposes. Have you got any more pictures?
