But it's something that makes you useful when everyone crashes on a deserted island and there's a bunch of tools and some planks. Whereas the people who post "I can read/write/doodle in the sand" would be first to get eaten.

Depends on your definition of house.

I could frame it, I could put it on a pier and beam foundation, I could insulate, sheetrock, install windows/doors, do the basic plumbing, and the basic electrical.

So yea, I could probably build a house with the right tools, materials, and extra hands to help lift.

I'd feel honored to have you a part of my community in the Post Apocalyptic world, because having a person that has the technical knowledge to construct houses (especially with plumbing and electrial!) is very valuable. Probably in 3rd place, right underneath of teachers (doctors being #1 most valuable).
