It Wandered In From the Wastes
Yeah, it's a bitch. I remember that KOTOR did have the 'return to Ebon Hawk' option, which was removed for 2. If you could tag one place (naturally a 'safe' place) which I could jump back to, that would be cool. I suspect most people would tag their home.
Better NPC combat control would be very good - being able to give orders (hold / retreat / snipe etc) without actually needing to control them directly. Games like Neverwinter Nights 2 did have this to some extent. Being able to have a 'combat plan' in which you can lay down the general tactical positioning would be even better. You could do this by having full NPC control, but I generally don't like doing that.
One other point I'll mention is old keymapping. I am left-handed, so I need to group all the regular action keys around the arrow keys, not the generic A-S-whatever. Now, around half of all games offer full keymapping facilities. Others allow you to twiddle around with the main ones, but others are still frozen, meaning I'll need to either drop the mouse or make a trek over they keyboard to press it. You might not think that's a problem, but when you have to use F1-F5 to give commands (like Operation Flashpoint) it literally means you are dead to the world while you're doing it.
