Ah.
Well, inventory catalog does make sense- though there'd probably be a typing action on part of the character or something along those lines, where the player inputs it as opposed to the Pip magically reading it...
I think the 3000 could be written off as a survivalist device. It has a GPS map, a radio receiver (useful perhaps for hearing a government update or a survivor's "meet me here"), a Geiger counter and radiation counter, and note-taking/holotape reading capabilities... inventory managment (or cataloging, as would be more realistic) isn't a bad idea either. Scanning limb conditions or giving a robust estimate of the user's well being are, again, more good ideas... ultimately it makes sense as a survivalists or Vault explorer's/diplomats multi-purpose computer.
I stand by my opinion it's not a bad idea, the design and UI is lackluster, however.
