What do you think happened to North and South Carolina after the Great War?

Ain't Soviets allied to Americans in Fallout?
I always interpreted it as a 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' sort of thing. There weren't exactly good feelings between the US and USSR (and rightly so, I hate communists) but because China was annexing all of Asia, the Soviets saw their heads on the chopping block next and came to the US for help (like the failures that communists are).

I guess it could've been like the 60s - 70s period when the USSR started to mass troops on the border due to how Mao messed up relations with Khruschev.

Though I don't think the USSR would ask the US for help. Sure, China has almost-infinite manpower, but I don't think in the FO world they'd have the technological advantage. I mean, they were stuck with their cheap rip off of the T-54A until the late 70s!

...speaking about technology, what's the cut off? Because there's stuff like the MiG-25 which was designed with vacuum tubes due to the threat of ECM/etc. Looking for tanks, infantry weapons and air force.

Speaking of the mountains of NC going untouched, I think the idea of a feudalistic monarchy sprouting up around the Biltmore Estate is neat.

Sheesh bit of an anti communist bias. The Russians weren't allied, just on relatively friendly terms, with Americans still creating anti-Soviet Propaganda.

Perhaps I spoke incorrectly. I was meaning to make a connection to WWII, where the Soviets and the US were fighting Nazi Germany. Not literally asking for help, but looking back on history we all know they needed American aid desperately.

Speaking of which, I wonder where Japan was in all the middle of this.

It's a failed system. I'm sick and tired of seeing communism everywhere. Also, the only places I saw propaganda were Fallout 3, which is non-canon, and New Vegas, where the enemies are indirectly referred to with Russian type names. The workers at HELIOS ONE likely just had a grudge against the Russians because they had grandparents from the Cold War days. That, and the US and the USSR weren't friendly, just loosely tied allies because they were fighting a greater enemy.

I know. But we all need some socialism.

Whether you like it or not Fallout 3 is canon. You can't just decide that anything you dislike is non-canon, that's dumb.

It was even referenced multiple times in New Vegas, which is also canon.

Fallout: PoS, Van Buren, the Fallout Bible, and most recently Fallout Shelter are all non-canon Fallout games/works. Fallout Tactics is only partially canon. Fallout 3 is 100% canon.

That is true but unless Bethesda decides to retcon it and declare it non-canon it remains canon, for better or for worse.

Hey, I'm glad you think that! It's still non-canon.

It's non-canon to us and that's what matters. ;)

If Fallout 3 is canon or not doesn't matter for me, I just don't damn care about the game and pretty much ignore it outside of the references in Fallout New Vegas such as the Lonesome Road DLC.

Some of the work by Obsidian really seemed to be a form of 'damage' control such as explaining where the new type of plasma rifles came from.

Unfortunate that won't be possible with FO4. PossibleCabbage here had some very good ideas on how to explain why Boston was still mostly standing.
(PossibleCabbage, could you post your two FO4 ideas here again? The one with the missile shield donated by House and the other one you had made up?)

Those were good, but I just ignore and pretend Fallout 3, though it is canon.
