What does the EC in "2mm EC" ammo stand for?

I always thought it stands for "Energy Carbine", but then I played too much Anarchy Online where that is a term.

I think something would be crippled, but at that stage it wouldn't be emotions =p

In my head it's always been 2mm Electro-magnetically Charged, but thinking of it, wouldn't it then make it 2mm EMC ?

Or maybe they were imported from the European Community? A designation like 7.62mm NATO & 7.62mm USSR. That would explain the scarcity.
Yea, it's German made.

When I was playing I never once gave it any thought at all. It was just 2mm EC ammo to me and wasn't actually an abbreviation for anything at all. :P

Well having read up a little on Gauss / Coil guns

EC, my take on things.

The guns DO require an electronic output, they also need the projectile

Thus: its not too far fetched that a 'power pack' could be used (in reference to what TwoEyedYum said) and has been mentioned... the "2mm EC" is basically all we know of this mysterious ammo type.

It is logical to assume that there is some form of solid projectile involved, and it would be safe to assume that said projectile is 2mm (millimetres) in a measurement, common ammo measurements often stating the rounds diameter (such as: 9mm, .357) so following convention I would infer that the ammo in this argument is measured 2 millimetres across. its length however will remain a mystery.

Now to the crux of this discussion: EC.
I am going to address this using the fact the weapon needs an electronic 'pulse' to fire its ammunition. As such needs a source of power, a battery or as I am going to put it an Electronic Charge. This would involve an integrated battery back in each ammunition 'clip' this would make sense being that the gun would otherwise need recharging which isn't do-able in the midst of combat, having the ammo clip with integrated batteries gives the weapon a constant and renewable/disposable power source.

so to break down how I see 2mm EC:

2 millimetre; Electronic Charge

The name dictating both the calibre and the fact it carries the charge the weapon requires.

If the 'C' stands for 'Charge' then it should be Electric Charge, as electronic refers to components, devices, systems, or equipment that use electricity.

It seems to me that it is unlikely to be Electronic Coil, as the ammo is clearly just supplying the energy that powers the device, plus the 2mm (likely tungston) projectile. The coil, or sequence of coils must be built into the body of the weapon and would be a major part of the structure.

Personally I would go with '2mm Electrically Charged', as it both makes sense semantically, and sounds OK.

@ gurachn

I'll duly agree with your thoughts, and I'd amend my somewhat huge post statement and go half way with you:

Electronically Charged.
