What happened to NMA's extensive download section in the last 10/12 years?

Hey everyone, old ass member here, after more than a decade away from Fallout, i decided to come back to it after learning about wonderful projects like Fallout Nevada.

I also decided to re-play FO1 and 2 again as well.

So i came back to NMA and, to my suprise, most of the downloads here are gone. Fallout 1's section only has "Fallout Fixt", which is one of those (IMO) horrible bundled modpacks, which dont even offer a more truly vanilla option. I had to resort to finding a "Fallout Update Pack" from nuclearcity site, which not only already contains a optional installation for the "fixt" content, but also offers a very much vanilla experience (manly just TeamX's patches, NPC mod and such). Why arent those mods being hosted on the site? Having more options is always nice.

I also had to resort to a obscure polish site to get myself the old "Fallout Update Mod 1.25", which adds quite a bit of cut content from fallout 1 (the romeo and juliet quest in addytum, Laura the Spy, quite a bit of minor NPCs in a lot of other towns and such).

With FO2, i had to go through Killap's site to get his patch stuff (which used to be hosted here).

I am also quite sad to see that all the quirky content made for FO2 seems to have vanished, i am talking about standalone artwork/assets, small mods (such as the multiple versions of Miria's mod that people made over the years or standalone NPCs).

Heck, i remember NMA used to host even a few Fallout Tactics mods (and many custom characters too), now theres only 5 of them, with most not even being proper mods

What happened everyone? Why does the download section looks so barren nowadays? Did these files got lost in some server issue? Its kinda sad to go into the downloads and i pretty much dont have anything interesting to download there anymore :(

The old downloads were still available on the archived NMA site. Because of that, we were only supposed to upload stuff that wasn't already there.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to access the archived downloads lately. It always leads me to an error page.

I recently asked if the archived downloads were gone for good, but I haven't got an answer, so I have no idea if they'll be back or not.

This makes no sense! Many of the archived downloads are as relevant now as they were 10 years ago, its not as if Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics got some magical new update that made irreversibly outdated.

Unless theres real server issues, the old stuff should be displayed in the download section, if an old member like me cant find this stuff, new people looking to download mods wont even know they exist!

What seems most tragic is that we lost the individual versions of a lot of mods, with some them being only available as part of bundles such as the Megamod.

Whats the link to the archived nma site? I can only find it through waybackmachine.

You just replace the "www" with "archive" and use "http" instead of "https". So the archive is:
    http://archive.nma-fallout.com

The archived download section would be:
    http://archive.nma-fallout.com/downloads.php
But like I said, it just gives me an error page these days (it used to work fine for me before).

If you have any particular file/mod you're looking for from the old NMA download section, I can see if I have it on my private backup drive and see if I can upload it into NMA again. Like I said before, I was told not to upload anything that was still available in the archived download section, but since it seems that doesn't exist anymore, I can upload older stuff now (without being told off).
As long as it's the most "recent" version of whatever it is (for example, not uploading versions 1 and 1.5 and 2 and 2.31 and 2.6 of the same mod/file) because I was told not to do that as not to clog the download section and confuse users with so many outdated versions of the same mod.

What's the issue with uploading older stuff to the downloads?
I think you should just do it.
Put them through a virus scanner first though

The issue is people don't want to upload things they want things to just be the way they are. The issue with that is nobody uses our download section it fucking sucks. If I have to find a mod for Fallout I will use the sub forums or another site.

Don't listen to what they told you they are hardly even here. I am surprised that people ever used this site for downloading though. So many modders hosted elsewhere for a reason.

I would love for you to list me what you still have backed up, it could refresh my memory on thats avaiable!

The mods i am mostly worried that are lost forever are the standalone stuff thats now included in the MIB88 megamod (Miria Mod, a few of the standalone locations like Scrapheap and such).

Also the Fallout Tactics stuff, i dont even remember the mod's names from back in the day, i would love to have those if you do have them. The FOT stuff seems to have vanished from the internet, i dont see them even on russian sites anymore =(

If you can, either PM me or just post them here. Thanks in advance!

As for why this went down I think Korin said the amount of downloads on the archive did not warrant keeping it. Shit costs money.

The issue is that it takes a lot of time to dig through the backups (they were a bulk archive of ALL the NMA downloads from the Atomic Gamer site, so they're all jumbled together), scan with antivirus (although I already scanned the entire folder containing all of the files and came negative, but I like to be thorough), install the stuff, see if it's working, check if it's the latest version available online, write a description to put on the NMA download page, make a small icon and finally upload it.

This gets even more complicated when the files do not have a readme or instructions or even say what they are. Then I have no idea how to install them, who made them (so I can credit the Author) or what they even do :roffle:.

I think it was Korin who told me not to upload old stuff that was still available on the archive NMA, years ago.
This will be a problem. I have hundreds of folders with thousands of files in them. My backup is a 13+GB archive from NMA files that were hosted on the old Atomic Gamer site. So they contain the files for all the games (even files like trailers for FOBOS and stuff like that) and are all jumbled together in different folders and subfolders.

I'll take a look at the Fallout Tactics files first and see what I can identify and upload again. I don't have much time today.

Double post because I can't ping people by editing older posts.
@Hassknecht could you make a "Patches" sub-section over at the Fallout Tactics downloads? I know you're busy so you might not see this for a while, but it would be nice to have that patches section since there are at least 5 different patches for Tactics. Thanks :D

Can i sugest you make a download avaiable of all of it on: https://archive.org/

13gb is nothing compared to the stuff one can host there (i personally have hosted more than 50gb archives) and it offers both direct download, alongside torrent-style downloading. One just needs to zip everything and upload it.

If one goes that route, i sugest adding even outdated versions of stuff as well, since this is not for the casual user and more as a archival oddity that may or may not be useful for users in the future.

I can't. My Australian internet is slow, horrible and cuts off easily.

I would probably need a day for it to upload, but since it keeps dropping out it would just cancel the upload. :wall:

Although, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I got the Atomic Gamer's NMA archive from archive.org in the first place.

I just dug into old stuff and found the web address:
    https://archive.org/details/AtomicGamer_nma-fallout
    Have fun with it :wiggle:.

Ok, I guess I misunderstood. It's not that you're not allowed to upload it all, it's more that you shouldn't bother :P

I've created that patch category btw

Snail mail it. Pop it on to a flash drive (or blu-ray disc) and make arrangements with someone here that has fantastic Internet speed.

Does anyone here live in Iceland?

*Alternatively, both GoogleDrive, and Dropbox would handle uploading the archive file(s) automatically. (To be deleted afterwards.)
If it's really unreliable, a split/multi-part Rar file could make re-uploads (of corrupted segments) much easier.

Also... a split Rar file could be uploaded (and downloaded) one part at a time, to remain within the free tier Dropbox storage cap; to be reassembled offline by the recipient.

Thanks :D I forgot you have admin powers too :drunk:.
I will be uploading the patches soon. :-D
No need, because this giant archive with all the old NMA downloads from Atomic Gamer site is available online already. So anyone's free to download it themselves and do whatever they want with it. ;-)

I love this site for how it keeps on gently chugging even after all of these years. I used to get through a lot of school days with games and occasionally checking on this site and it brings me a lot of hope to know that some old things just don’t die :).
