What TV shows are a cut above the rest, and why?

Firefly, The Venture Bros, South Park, ATHF, BSG, Metalocalypse, Freaks and Geeks.

Will we ever learn what the four toed statue was about? I doubt it... This is why, I abhor lost.

No one mentioned Flight of the Conchords??? Something is not right here.

That's the #2 item on my Christmas list. My favorite line from the entire season was "All those shoes made by little slave kids... Please, someone tell me where the overhead is". My wife loved the racist fruit vendor episode. It's one of the few shows that we both enjoy.

There are only 3 reasons I watch scrubs "Which is only sometimes, since these are the only things that make the show worth watching... but they are fucking great."

1.Bob Kelso... "Who has 2 thumbs, and doesn't give a crap?"

2.Dr.Cox...well...only when he's ranting.

3......

J A N I T O R!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JANITOR!!!!!!!!!! JANii... i think you get the point..

"I made shoes for my army of rabbits"

Also, everything Stag said, and only the part about MST3K that brother none said.

In a Q&A just recently, they said it would be addressed next season, along with the history of libby, and some other crazy stuff that it felt like theyd never address.

Also, for that matter, lost already has plotted out exactly how many episodes before its over. It wraps up and ends in a few years, for good, it wont drag on past that at all.

I don't watch TV that often, so I don't even regularly watch the shows I like. Regardless, here's my list of fairly recent shows I'll watch if (and when) I get the chance. By no particular order, of course:
Scrubs
My Name is Earl
Malcolm in the Middle
House M.D.

Also, there's Cold Case, which, unlike other Bruckheimer's lookit-me-I'm-a-badass-main-character crime shows (in every sense of this term), actually has some humanity involved. Plus, Kathryn Morris.

yeah, this was the case from the very beginning, which i think is classy as hell.

Proof or it didn't happen.

Cops: It makes you glad you're not the guy on TV. It's funny to see meth heads and heroin addicts arrested, but also cripples the soul to see people put away for a stash of that wacky tobaccy.

Forensic Files: Need to murder someone and have a better chance of not getting caught? 'Nuff said.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The third season is the best. Don't watch the movie, Neil Peart is the only cool part about it.

Squidbillies: Aqua Teen Hunger Force with squids and an emphasis on making fun of rednecks. Badass.

Metalocalypse: "I'm Rockzo, the Rock 'n Roll Clown! I do cocaine!"

Others:
Family Guy
South Park
Venture Brothers
Dirty Jobs
Planet Earth
Man vs. Wild (I don't give a fuck if he stays in hotels, he's trying to teach techniques)

EDIT:
Adultswim needs to stop showing all these shit-tastic animes. Maybe one or two a night, but 2 straight hours every weeknight? WTF? If you're going to broadcast anime on your network, stick to cool ones like "Samurai Champloo" or "Cowboy Bebop".
They could use those two hours showing much better shows like Metalocalypse, Aqua Teen, Venture Bros., Squidbillies, and Tom Goes to the Mayor. It'd probably help their ratings out a bit.

Whoa whoa, the intro to the movie was worth the entire movie alone.

Getting the go-ahead for a set number of seasons isn't the same thing as plotting a series out in advance, which, in case it wasn't clear, was what I was thinking about. They've already had to fire actors and thus kill off characters ahead of time. I have my grave doubts whether they have an ending prepared that will justify and elevate all the stalling, retconning and regurgitation, but OMG I haven't even played the game yet.

Retconning?
Nah, they've been pretty consistent so far.
They do have a specified end date, and do have the entire show plotted out already. They have had to make minor adjustments, and still write the shows per season, but the actual beginning and end are already finished and waiting to be played out.

The end date I showed was the actual end date of the show, JJ Abrams has said that the show will end on that last season, and will not run past it.

yes, it was clear...and like i said, they discuss it on the dvd's.

Rome. Needs no further recommendation.

It takes a few liberties with history though - Caesar wasn't black haired and Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo were members of a different Legion etc... but all in all, it's great and a good watch. It also portrays ancient Rome accurately.

The first season is better than the second, but that's just my preference.

Also, if you love Roman law like I do, you'll love the series even more.

Rome is wonderful, I've masturbated to that show I don't know how many times.
