what's with this community and the toxicity towards bethesda?

Reading the OP post more in detail and holy shit, i think it has all the cliched "arguments".

- You just hate Bethesda
- Every Fallout game has good in it, so you shouldn't be harsh on any of them and you need to realize this
- Being nostalgia blinded for the first two games, even though me and some others actually played Fallout 3 first
- This community is toxic
- You just hate Fallout 76 because it's multiplayer

Of course. They do this because it works, every fucking time. Why tamper with a successful formula?

Oh, I didn't even realize they actually changed his name. Go to the unpopular opinions thread, page 21.
What I meant was how do you change your own name? Cause I kinda wanna change mine ('tis pretty lame) and I checked everywhere on my profile and can't seem to find the option.
Still Cliffy McEdgeface is a really good name. Quite fitting

Shit OP with shit opinions, you seriously are going to come to somewhere whose foundation was pretty much built on the Interplay fallout, the home of the old guard who know those games like the back of their hands and try to say that they're somehow blinded by nostalgia? This is either a fail troll, or some kid

You have every right to love Fo3 & Fo4.
But people don't HAVE to change what they like or what they don't like because their tastes aren't 100% like yours. Beside, liking something or not is rarelly a decision. It is just who you are.

Ask an Admin. Let me summon on for you: @Hassknecht

Only one message and a day later...I think we can chalk this up to some 'lol gottem' Bether. This isn't the first time this thread has been posted, and won't be the last - so are we going to change how we respond them? Just auto-vat or auto-link spam to prior posts explaining 'general' positions?

I think auto vatting threads such as this would be a bad idea.

I think that engaging with these grumpy individuals is one aspect that makes NMA different from other online forums.

Some of the members here joined after creating such threads, figured out we're not such a bad crowd, and stuck around.
Therefore I suggest that every time an overtly inflammatory thread is created that we all engage with them in a level head. Let's not treat them how they treat us, let's treat them like us.

To be honest it's just words, words that don't strip who we are or what we like. However if they are willing to come to us and risk indoctrination all the better. That means the fanboys can come to us, hopefully learn our perspective, and potentially join our ranks once they begin to think critically.

NMA has always been the coalition stringing together individuals to discuss the Fallout franchise, as well enjoy each other's input on diverse matters. I see no reason to change that now.

And that is why I always commit to reply to people when they make threads like this.

People will not know the truth about NMA if we ignore them and don't reply, if we just hurl insults at them, if we VAT their threads, etc. That would actually make some what they say about us true and we're better than that.

That is why I take time to read their posts and address them point by point if possible. To clarify that what people out there think about NMA is or not true.

I think you fundamentally misunderstand what transpired in that OP and the nature of that poster.

I think you are quite literally wasting good will (among other things) on a hit-and-run troll.

That said, I clearly can't stop you from taking obvious bait and using post-hoc rationalization to make yourself feel better about it. You do you.

No, seriously, if a poster's first fucking post is to kick the bees' nest, act like a fucking scold and bitch about the community THEY JUST FUCKING JOINED, ask yourself what the next few posts are probably going to sound like (ASSUMING THEY EVEN STICK AROUND).

It still serves a purpose though.

NMA is known by being toxic to Bethesda in large places like Reddit, Steam, Bethesda forums, etc. If someone that has no idea what NMA is, sees a post on those places saying that NMA is toxic about Bethesda, they might google something like "NMA toxic Bethesda", so they see what it is. This thread will be the first or second result (it was first when I used "toxicity" and second when I used the common word "toxic"), then they can come by and see that NMA is not like that at all.

So not only are we replying to a potential troll, we are also showing people who might not know what NMA is when they google about it.

And if I reply to all of the threads that are like that (if I feel like it, it is not really a priority to be honest, I just get bored easily), the more google results will appear showing that we are not how most people out there see us.
Although I mentioned it already, but the real reason is that I am usually bored around this time, it is before I go to bed and so I can't be doing something that takes a lot of time (like playing a game, watching a movie or doing house work for example).

I'm not sure why you'd CARE if someone thinks NMA is toxic towards Bethesda. If there's a company that's absolutely earned every bit of venom it gets, it's Beth. The measure of "toxicity" is itself subjective, as many people will (sincerely or otherwise) frame any legitimate criticism of Beth as toxicity. At some point you have to stop giving a fuck about what Bethestards think.

I don't really care about what people think of NMA, but I do care about the truth.
I never liked misinformation or lies, so if I can set a record straight, then I will do it... If I'm in the mood .

Anyway, time to get ready for bed. >_>

@Cliffy McEdgeface
I'm perfectly aware of the nature of the poster, however I support being constructive rather than reductive. Getting grumpy over someone who is actively trying to make you grumpy is like surrendering.

What makes you think I was grumpy? Dismissive and insulting, yes, by fucking design. But grumpy? I'm grumpier that people who should absolutely know better are rationalizing arguing with the idiot OP by, of all things, posting a demotivator telling people not to argue with idiots. Shit doesn't even make SENSE now.

As for "being constructive" - the usage of that term implies you think you're building something. What? Goodwill with people who have come here deliberately to prey upon that? A good name for the unfairly-maligned NMA? Who are you trying to kid here?

If you want to masturbate to the way your posts sound in your head, fine, but quit pretending that it's anything but self-service.

The point I'm trying to convey is that arguing with an "idiot" often turns into acting just like them. I don't think bringing myself to meet them on their level is acceptable. The demotivational poster is intended to be humorous.

Cliffy, I don't know you, and you don't know me. I would like to think this could be a situation of confused context? However the manner in which you choose to engage I do not consider acceptable, nor amicable.

The point of being constructive is to forge new relationships with others that engage in discourse here. I would like to think we gather here on these forums to discuss a topic we all enjoy in our own way. If that means treating those of a derogatory nature with kindness then I choose to be kind if at all possible. I think in this context you also apply, because if I were to take your advice on the matter then you and I would not be engaged in such a discussion now.

I also understand that you consider my post to be self flagellating from what I can discern from your post. All I can say to that is "To each their own". My intention is not to sound "better" than someone else, merely to convey a point or perspective that my differ from your own.

If something is upsetting you, please feel free to let me know via PM or continue the discussion here.
