What's your favorite crpg NPC character?

mine is undoubtedly Ignus from Planescape: Torment.

A pyromaniacal mage, Ignus is chaotic and insane. Ignus once attempted to burn down the Hive, and was only stopped by a collaboration of many local magic users, from minor hedge wizards to mighty sorcerers. Furious at his mad killing spree, they converted him into a living conduit to the Elemental Plane of Fire as an ironic punishment. Such treatment would have instantly incinerated a normal mortal, but Ignus survived. Stuck in a semi-coma and reveling in the never-ending flames coursing over his body, he was eventually made into a mascot for the Smoldering Corpse Bar.

The recruitable NPCs in PS:T are awesome. Even without a talking head, and having almost no spoken dialog, they were very well characterized. I think it's a tie between Dak'kon and Fall from Grace for me. There's just so much well-written dialog in them, and so much to be learned/gained from talking to them... and they're also damn useful in combat.
Disclaimer: I have recently finished Torment, so my opinion could be biased.

It's quite alright, Viconia and Aerie were in bg2

Que?
Looks like I missed on some sex. Or rather on all sex.

As for the favorite NPC - that's Morte, definitely.
And if we're not talking only about recruitable NPCs, here's another obvious choice: The Master from Fallout 1.

Recruitable NPC? Dak'kon, hands down.

Non-recruitables? A four-way tie between the Master and Harold of Fallout, the Transcendent One from Planescape: Torment and Kerghan from Arcanum

As far as recruitable NPCs are concerned, it's a tie between Virgil (he can be irritating as hell, but he's got a great background story), Morte and Ignus.

As for non-recruitables, definetely the Master.

Imoen. Too bad she wasn't fuckable in BG1.
Incest, stay classy man.
Hey, <CHARNAME> doesn't know it in BG1 :D . Also, it would just make the whole thing better :) .

Non recruitables - The Master, Lieutenant.

Hrmh.

I found all of Torment's NPC highly appealing. The amount of work put into them is staggering, and i have yet to see another cRPG that has such a marvellous, distinguishable crew of recruitable/accompanying NPC's. Amongst them my all time favourites have to be Dak'kon and Ignus.

Next is Myron from Fallout 2. C'mon, the little, annoying geek is so cute. :D

Virgil from Arcanum is another one of those very life-like NPC's. Great banter.

Yoshimo, Viconia, Chloe and Solaufein (last two are mod NPC's) from Baldur's Gate 2 are also all great, especially Chloe. Her romance is superbly written.

Gorath and Locklear from Betrayal at Krondor have their moments.

HK-47 over from the KotOR's is the most badassed robot companion ever. I had him in my party at all times possible, if only to hear his snappy remarks, <3.

Badu from Septerra Core, i love that psycho.

As for neutrals and baddies, i particularly like Paul Denton from Deus Ex, a very inspiring character, Darth Nihilus from KotOR 2 is too kvlt and greim not to love him, Abraham van Helsing from Bloodnet (he has van in his name, he must be Dutch, haha), Saemon Havarian from Baldur's Gate 2 just because he's a tricky cunt and of course The Master from Fallout 1, one of the neatest bad guys in the history of computer games.

Saemon Havarian would be cool if he was killable, preferably instant-killable/rapable from dialog :) .
Sadly, he isn't - I hate unkillable characters  .

I've mentioned it before, but I always felt Arcanum paid attention to the wrong recruitable NPCs. Virgil and Magnus get the most attention, but story-wise and especially VO-wise they're both highly annoying, and pretty useless at that. Gar is treated with the right amount of attention, but then comes a row of NPCs with too little attention paid to them, led by Torian Kel.

I think my choice is obvious.

If you had to choose one companion for all time, wouldn't the wry floating skull be the most interesting?

Plus, you wouldn't have to worry about feeding him, stealing your shit, etc. Kinda like Dogmeat, sorta.

I don't like them either, to be honest. I don't like anything that limits me in my role playing experience, and "unkillable characters" is one of the most recurring bummers. :/

But Saemon is interesting enough in himself to let me forget it and just enjoy (or rather, get really pissed off at :D) his actions.

Frankly, I tried to kill him every time he betrayed my character. It's an interesting situation, when a charismatic, unloyal character gets swiftly murdered by a PC.
